He had a good game tonight, made the odd mistake but he looked much better than I ever thought he would do playing for Everton.
Still can't see him making it as a Premiership #1. I'll be delighted if he proves me wrong but, though he's young and has time to learn and improve I don't think he's good enough.

So how do you quantify whether you have sufficient information?

You can back up your point by highlighting scenarios that will never ever happen but that indicates to me that you are clutching at straws.

What if said penalty taker decides for the first time in his life to put it elsewhere? Looks like it was just a guess after all. Sure, you can prepare and play the probabilities but ultimately its a guess. No amount of information can make the goalie KNOW where the taker will put the ball, and if you don't know, then you are guessing.

no it means you've made an informed decision and the PK taker has been forced out of his comfort zone, which might force a miss like Noble himself has already admitted too.

I had no idea so many posters were penalty saving experts. It's almost a waste that you're here on the internet at midnight, given the strength of your knowledge.

nah because its that simple, regular pk takers have their favoured areas and its stupid to suggest otherwise

i actually thought the ref was going to send him off during the shoot-out, never seen it happen before - he should have taken the chance, stick jags in goal (probably would have done better) and then we could have gone back to our normal pen takers.

a lot of our pens were poor today, it must be said, we kept hanging on in there by the skin of our teeth, luckily WHU's keeper was so gash he couldn't keep them out.

mcgeady being used as the scapegoat but we actually raised our game after going down to 10, we did jack sh*t before then.

That was a baptism of fire.

I bet if you'd told him before the game he'd miss in the penalty shoot out to lose the match he'd of said rubbish.

Couldn't make it up.

i bet if you told him he'd be man of the match before the game, he'd have been even more surprised

Baines once said he struck one of his penalties down the centre because his son said he hadn't done that it a while. How can you predict that ffs?

Sure there are favoured areas but even if you went that way every time you'd miss a lot just due to timing, them mis-hitting their shot or changing their mind.

My mate's a United fan, and so we watch all United and Everton games together. As a result, I have seen the emergence of De Gea, and now the emergence of Joel, who I believe kept De Gea out of all of the Spanish youth sides? Anyway, watching Joel now is like watching De Gea 2/3 years ago when he was slated by many (including me) for saving with the wrong hand (making them look better) and not being commanding of his area. Also an inability to catch. He shook this off with regular game time, which I believe Joel now fully deserves. Joel reminds me of De Gea in every way, and is already starting to improve at catching the ball. Give Joel the rest of the season.

this has been one of his biggest positives for me over the few games he has played recently, he looks way more confident running off his line to catch the ball, he used to look unsure what to do and come out flapping at thing air
