He's got all the attributes to be a great keeper - he's very physically imposing and showed on Saturday and Tuesday that he can deal with long balls in to his box as well as make good saves.

All of the above, however, relies on his confidence and ability to concentrate which has been non existent in some past games. It must be hard as a #2 to go straight in - hopefully a run of games will show he's good enough. Still think we'll need a new keeper this summer regardless because Howard won't sit on the bench if so.

Off the top of my head, from the 12/13 season:

- Star jump against Demba Ba at Goodison
- Long ranger from El Ahmadi at Villa straight through his hands
- Fumbled a tame shot into Mata's path at Stamford Bridge (Moyes' last game)
- Diving behind his own line at home to Norwich for Bassong to equalise

Just off the top of my head, there's bound to be more. The point is, he's not just turned crap this season. He's been crap for a good few years

really? he had two against crystal palace( pen and the header), was to busy jumping up and down before the free kick in the derby and it went straight down the middle pretty much, beaten at his near post by some random hull player, beaten at his near post but soldardo (bloody soldardo ffs), parried the ball straight out to errikson in the same match.

that's just off the top of my head this season am sure I could find more if I actually looked.

While it's true players like Barry and distan have been a contributing factor to the goals we have conceded howard has been abysmal this season and should of been benched a long time before he got injured.

He's been poor I agree but it's not his usual form in a normal season, I probably should have excluded this season in that post though like you say.

Flattening Frazier Campbell for no reason to give Palace a penalty in the Palace game.
Letting the ball go through his hands for Campbell to score in the same game.
Being beaten at his near post against Hull.
Ivanovic's shot going straight through him against Chelsea.
Handling the ball outside the box against Chelsea. He should have been sent off.
Pathetically palming out a pea roller to Erikson against Spurs.
Getting beat near post at Swansea away in the cup.

That's just off the top of my head. I bet I could remember more if I looked again at our games this season. He's been an embarrassment to watch.
