I've said all along whilst Howard has been gash this season, I'd rather have a young guy like Joel in goal who can learn from his mistakes. He's a decent keeper, as his Wigan days show, just needs games, confidence and some good coaching to show him where he goes wrong.

Howard is not learning from his mistakes. He's nothing more than backup for me now, regardless if our no 1 is Joel or another.

You see the problem I have with that is that he didn't actually make any errors in those games except Krasnador of course.

Sorry my memory is failing me. I don't remember it being a howler but maybe you're right.

It went through his hands he just didn't have his face in the way that time.

I think your memory must be failing you on a number of games to be honest if you can't remember Robles mistakes that have lead to goals.

You just need to see how much Joel is learning and growing as a gk by looking at the incident when he cleans out both Carroll and our defender.

Not had a gk since Big Nev do that.

He has all the attributes to be a quality gk. The difficulty of being a no 2 and then being expected to instantly be perfect is vastly understated within this forum.

No time to build comms. No time to get match sharpness and confidence without s run of games.

Whilst I like your enthusiasm, I think you're getting a tad too excited too early here.

Robles shot-stopping is decent as it should be but his distribution/kicking is pretty poor - he twice threw the ball out instead of rolling it to Coleman on Tuesday night, and 3 or 4 of his goal kicks were dreadful.

Add into the mix that he isnt a great leader/communicator and youve got the makings of a big fat question mark regarding his potential.

And any link to Southall when talking about Robles is just silly.

Why not rewrite it? Picking apart his performance and correcting anyone who sees it differently doesnt achieve a lot.

To be truthful no, but when you've been a keeper at one club for such a long time you're bound to have made the occasional mistake.

Really? It only happened the other month. Howard makes 5 or 6 howlers a season. Not as many last season, but he still punched the ball in his own net against Chelsea in the last minute to lose the game 1-0

Really! and as I've said Howard isn't going to be perfect always but he certainly doesn't make 5-6 howlers a season.
