Joel Robles

That was his first full clean sheet and his confidence is growing game by game, looks to have finally won trust from the four in front of him. Was quick off his line last night, was decisive with his punch, made a world class save albeit being offside. Needs to work on his kicking still though.

Couldn't agree more about corners and crosses. He looks very commanding and I just love the fact we have a big tall goal keeper.

Their chance Jags cleared off the line he probably could have done better but looked calm and assured afterwards.

Will be very disappointed if Howard walks back into the side.

Robles has claimed more high balls in the last 3 games than Howard all season.

I still worry that Howard will go straight in.

He shouldn't, but I still think Martinez will do it.

Robles has so much potential though. He's only 24 and already a great shot stopper with good distribution. His positioning is decent and his only real weakness was his assertiveness, which has already improved massively. This is why I've been saying for ages that people wrote him off too quickly; keepers can't be judged until they have a run of games. Even now it's too early to judge him, but he's certainly merited our number 1 spot until his form dictates otherwise.

Except for the Gayle mishap right after we scored which although he didnt do very well it was his first involvement so that can be ignored, the rest of the game he was brilliant.

What i like about him the most and il admit i thought he was awful until he got this run of games is he genuinely looks massive compared to some players, for eg David De Gea is meant to be 6 ft 4 but doesn't look that at all, howard is meant to be 6 ft 3 but plays more like a 6 ft gk because of his style but joel looks bigger than 6 ft 5, he absolutely towered over murray at one point in the game and that guy is meant to be 6 ft 2 but looked about a foot smaller.

I like his quick distrubution of the ball but i do feel it still requires work because alot of the time it was wild punts into a general area when we only had lukaku up there and no one even close to support but at least the idea is correct to get us further up the pitch quicker.

Madness to judge him on the odd game here and there last season and his one outing in the Europa. A settled defence playing week in-week out with the same keeper are going to get better together. Robles is at least decisive in his keeping after a few games. If decent money comes in for Howard from the MLS tomorrow/Monday I would hope we have options ready to go.

Robles may prove to be not quite good enough long term, but as Southall said when howard was first injured, every keeper needs games.
