Well some people on here, don't laugh actually believed the myth that Robles was keeping De Gea out of the Madrid team and Spanish youth teams.

This joke of a rumour seems to rear it's laughable head every time he keeps a clean sheet.

On the basis Stek is Koeman's mate, wouldn't have Robles been Martinez's mate because he had signed him twice? Sort of defeats your own argument.

Truth is, we don't see Robles every day. Koeman and Martinez and their staff have, and don't rate him to highly.

Steklenburg was bought to be back up, if we had bought another keeper Robles would have been gone already.

Unfortunately, that's the truth. He is not rated by the current staff, the previous staff and all his other clubs to be the number one keeper. He is a modern day Bobby Mimms.

Robles may be Martinez's mate, I couldn't care less and that wasn't my point so it defeats no argument.

Martinez made it clear why he selected Howard ahead of Joel and it wasn't because of ability.

And you're right, we don't see them every day in training but I see every game where it counts and Joel simply does not make all the howlers Stek makes.

I concur Joel isn't good enough for us either btw.

Joel will always be a solid number 2. We really need a top keeper make do with him and Stek until seasons end and go for a Heaton, Pickford or dare I say it Joe Hart. If all else fails a German will need to do.

If Koeman hasn't realised both Robles and Stek don't cut it then we might as well give up. He should have seen this over the season and had a keeper ready to sign on Jan 1st!

He's great if you're backs against the wall (Swansea, Wales) but no good at dealing with counter attacks when you are pressing the play (occasionally Everton).
