What you are seeing is a massive disconnect between the ex pros and the football supporter.
To Savage, Brazil, Nicholas, Merson, Nicol, Burley et al, the whims and wishes of the player is all that counts.
They bleat on about "he might never get the chance to make this money again" and "he should move to have a better chance to win things".
In their eyes the contract is only an insurance policy in case of injury or loss of form.
Your money is guaranteed.
But if all is going well then they think a player should be able to tear the contract up and sign another one elsewhere.
To these guys, football is all about money.....they cannot comprehend Bobby saying "in life and football, money cannot always buy you everything".
He might as well have spoken in Urdu for all they understood him.
Because to these guys nothing has a value.....it only has a price.
So.....on the off chance one of those buggers is reading this.....listen up, boys.
And I have no hesitation in saying I speak the thoughts of 99.99% of football fans in England.
I don't care about a player's future after he leaves my club.
I only care about my club.
I couldn't give a rat's ass if John Stones never again gets the chance of a multi million pound transfer to Chelsea or anywhere else.
I don't care if he never plays another game for England.
If he doesn't play in the CL for any other club but Everton.....I don't care.
Unless he wins a Cup with Everton I don't care if he finishes his career empty handed.
I want John to stay at Everton and earn as much money as we can afford to pay him, which is a vast sum in any man's language.
I want him to become Everton's most decorated player ever and to become England's record cap collector.
I am happy enough forking out nearly a grand a year for a ST and whatever I pay for my Sky subscription in order to finance a long and lucrative career at Goodison.
But regards what may be on offer elsewhere for him?
I just don't care.
(how did I do there,
@BlockHead )
