John Stones transfer saga

I think John Stones is a fantastic defender, but he did play the majority of last campaign when we were awful in defence. So if an offer of £30,000,000 comes in, then I would bite Chelsea's arm off.

We could use that for 3 team fillers, which are desperately needed. Our first 11 is very strong, but our subs are average at best - and we need money to sort that out.

It doesn't help that a number of players are only staying with us, because nobody else will have them. (I think) McGeady, Hibbert, Howard, Pieanar, Kone.. probably with us until the end of their contract or playing days.

Selling your best players should only be done if :-

  1. You're totally skint and need to pay the banks
  2. The player is desperate to leave and keeping them against their will would effect their performances and / or the dressing room
  3. You get an offer which is all but impossible to refuse
We can rule out (1) and almost certainly (2) as well, which leaves (3). 30 Million seriously undervalues Stones. If Chelsea want to force the issue, I'd hope they would need to be talking 40 million plus. I certainly doubt very much we'd even consider anything South of 35 million, and I also doubt Chelsea would go that high

Selling one really good player and replacing him with three squad players would be very poor business. We have youngsters coming through to fill out the squad and just need a couple of new faces in key positions.

Rio Ferdinand was sold for £30m 13 years ago.

To say Stones is worth around the same 13 years on is laughable.

He will be England Captain for ages, nailed on, you've got to think north of £40m for me.

And when you do Chelski, we'll still tell you to F off!

Ferdinand went for £18.5m from west ham to Leeds at the age of 21 after making over 120 apps for west ham. Then moved to utd at the age of 23 for £30m after making over 50 apps for Leeds also playing in and reaching the semi final of the champs league too and becoming their captain also playing regular for England and in a world cup.

Just saying like!

Last page it was £30 mill, this page £38 mill. Next page £40/£45 mill. When a bidding war starts between City, United, Chelsea and Arsenal. The price will rocket. I don't think he will go. But if we are offered £45 mill. What then?

These stories will continue until the window shuts. Get the feeling the deciding factor in the end will be Stones either pushing to leave or not.
