I wouldn't sell for less than £50m.
But then I'm a bit of a nutter.

I think they go low to begin with because if they bid 20m we might think we can push them up to 35m but if they bid 30m then we might think we could push them to 40m etc...I think clubs like Chelsea go in with early low offers to unsettle the player and hope he starts making noises about wanting to leave.
If he goes for 40m that would mean you make 10m in total off the player.Just visiting from the other side of the Pennines and thought I would provide an alternative view of this. We poor souls that support Barnsley were both gutted and outraged when Stones was given away to Everton for what we all knew was a stupidly low fee (£2.2m apparently, not the oft-quoted £3m). Our owner has admitted publicly that on the day Everton bid for him, he was relatively unaware of John and asked the Chief Executive if he was 'any good'. He has also admitted that it was probably the biggest mistake the club had ever made (which is saying quite a lot). Those of us who merely support the club through the turnstiles knew that we had a once in a lifetime gem on our hands, and this admission didn't exactly improve our collective state of mind. David Moyes bragging about the deal afterwards didn't help either. The one and only saving grace is that we are rumoured to have a 15%-20% sell-on clause. I have been told by someone who ought to know that Everton have tried three times to buy out the clause; for once perhaps we may end up having done the right thing. So, spare a thought for those of us who are merely bystanders in a Sky-created money-obsessed Premier League world; 15% of £25-40m or so would give us half a chance of competing in the genuinely 'Fair-Play' circumstances that we lower league clubs are forced to operate in, and be a reasonable return for an exceptional player our club nurtured from the age of ten.
Would prefer it wasn't Chelsea though!
But I would like £130,000 a week and Champions league football. You know what would be awesome... if Stones came out and said he had no interest in leaving.

Fook me i can't take anymore of this sh1t Everton, you are killing me.
Sell the lot and just auto fill as soon as possible ffs
Like this you mean?
McCarthy keeps things ticking over? That's my point. Players who play those positions need to either a) score goals or b) be able to start attacks with a wide range of passing. Unfortunately McCarthy lacks both, he's great defensively but not so much with the ball. That makes him a player we can replace.
McCarthy is the ghost in the machine. That type of selfless player who goes about the business of covering and moving the ball on is crucial to any team that wants to play the sort of game we play.I do like McCarthy, but the dearth of creativity in centre midfield is embarrassing, and he contributes to that.
