John Stones transfer saga

...I think clubs like Chelsea go in with early low offers to unsettle the player and hope he starts making noises about wanting to leave.
I think they go low to begin with because if they bid 20m we might think we can push them up to 35m but if they bid 30m then we might think we could push them to 40m etc

Fook me i can't take anymore of this sh1t Everton, you are killing me.

Sell the lot and just auto fill as soon as possible ffs

Just visiting from the other side of the Pennines and thought I would provide an alternative view of this. We poor souls that support Barnsley were both gutted and outraged when Stones was given away to Everton for what we all knew was a stupidly low fee (£2.2m apparently, not the oft-quoted £3m). Our owner has admitted publicly that on the day Everton bid for him, he was relatively unaware of John and asked the Chief Executive if he was 'any good'. He has also admitted that it was probably the biggest mistake the club had ever made (which is saying quite a lot). Those of us who merely support the club through the turnstiles knew that we had a once in a lifetime gem on our hands, and this admission didn't exactly improve our collective state of mind. David Moyes bragging about the deal afterwards didn't help either. The one and only saving grace is that we are rumoured to have a 15%-20% sell-on clause. I have been told by someone who ought to know that Everton have tried three times to buy out the clause; for once perhaps we may end up having done the right thing. So, spare a thought for those of us who are merely bystanders in a Sky-created money-obsessed Premier League world; 15% of £25-40m or so would give us half a chance of competing in the genuinely 'Fair-Play' circumstances that we lower league clubs are forced to operate in, and be a reasonable return for an exceptional player our club nurtured from the age of ten.

Would prefer it wasn't Chelsea though!
If he goes for 40m that would mean you make 10m in total off the player.

You know what would be awesome... if Stones came out and said he had no interest in leaving.
:D
But I would like £130,000 a week and Champions league football.
Lets face it we will always be cherry picked by these super rich clubs even spurs are trying, so Stones along with McCartney, Lukaku maybe Barkley if he has a decent season wont be with us long. Never mind I'm sure utd have still got plenty of 2nd hand crocks in their squad

Look at what Ferdinand went for when he moved to United. Take into consideration his age and how long ago it was.

Also look at what David Luiz went for to PSG.

Stones should not be sold for less than £50m.

I dont want to see us sell him but speaking to a mate of mine and he makes a good point.

He doesnt support everton but he said what if they offered you 35 + a player in a position you need or need a promising talent for the future. I think it would be difficult to reject if they offered us say 35 million and someone like Bamford who we could genuinely use this season or even one of there numerous midfielders they don't use regularly and would still leave us 35 million to find another couple of CBs.

Im just glad i aint in charge because you can see the argument from both sides despite me earlier saying i wouldn't considering selling at all.

I just had a five hour drive which started at roughly half ten. This didn't exist when I left and now has 35 pages already! GOT fume at its finest.

Think he'll still play for us all this season at the least.

McCarthy keeps things ticking over? That's my point. Players who play those positions need to either a) score goals or b) be able to start attacks with a wide range of passing. Unfortunately McCarthy lacks both, he's great defensively but not so much with the ball. That makes him a player we can replace.
I do like McCarthy, but the dearth of creativity in centre midfield is embarrassing, and he contributes to that.
McCarthy is the ghost in the machine. That type of selfless player who goes about the business of covering and moving the ball on is crucial to any team that wants to play the sort of game we play.

I cant understand why this point even needs to be made. Rewind one year ago and his importance would never have been challenged. We had a toothless season and now his input is questioned.

Straight swop with Courtios or do one. the writing is on the wall here lads it's only a matter of time waiting for the inevitable. from his point of view it would be a great move for him.
