John Stones transfer saga

Has the bid really been increased to £26 million ????
They can have McCarthy for that. Schneiderlin's recent transfer to Utd suggests that would be a fair price for a mid-twenties, prem-experienced, non-homegrown, international defensive midfielder.

Luke Shaw says Stones is worth at least £40m, however.

Straight swop with Courtios or do one. the writing is on the wall here lads it's only a matter of time waiting for the inevitable. from his point of view it would be a great move for him.

Inevitable, but not this summer. Next year, probably.

I'm not really sure who they have as Central defenders there now, they may want him in for this upcoming season if they don't have adequate players to cover but hopefully he won't be going anywhere soon.

If the bid is genuine they will go all the way with it. I think the board will settle at £35m.

If we must sell, then let McCarthy go for 30m.

As mentioned, it's embarrassing our central midfield in terms of creativity and having Barkley drop deeper, Barry in the squad and Besic, we coudl afford to sell him and use the cash to improve other areas of the team.
rather sell stones than McCarthy mate.

stones is a centre half, one with potential but still a centre half. a dime a dozen so to speak. McCarthy is far more important to the team. He is much harder to replace for our kind of budget even if we were selling.

This here proves you're an absolute (someone finish this for me)

Cahill, Terry, Zouma and Ivanovic (who is more of a CB than RB in truth).

McCarthy is the ghost in the machine. That type of selfless player who goes about the business of covering and moving the ball on is crucial to any team that wants to play the sort of game we play.

I cant understand why this point even needs to be made. Rewind one year ago and his importance would never have been challenged. We had a toothless season and now his input is questioned.
That's because without the creative players doing damage at the other end, the rest of them had their limitations exposed.

It wouldn't be an issue if they were at least defensively solid last season, but they weren't. That midfield was walked through on a regular basis.
