John Stones

I don't care how young he is or how inexperienced he is, if Smalling goes to the WC ahead of Stones it would be a travesty, he is head and shoulders above Smalling and the only reason he would go before Stones is because he plays for utd, at any other club he would be nowhere near the England squad, he's average at best.

Smalling and Jones. Both ain't deserve to get a place. The defence of Man Utd is awful this season.

The strange is you get pick more than you deserve because you play for a Sky 6 team. This applies to France as Distin should have got about 30 caps plus while some sh1te barcode players have 70 plus caps for their countries.

If the england manager has any pretensions about playing football at the WC then he'll be taking Stones and seriously considering playing him.

If he want's to go and play hustle and bustle crap in South America, in summer, then he's a fool.

I can't believe how much this lad has come on, I really can't. When Distin went off yesterday I was worried for him, I thought, up against the attacking quality United had we'd see him falling short. Nothing of the sort. He's becoming a real giant amongst men.

Hello, Barnsley fan here.

Obviously, we're not jumping for joy here in South Yorkshire about how much we received for John. £3 million is looking like the bargain of the millennium at the moment. He may not have played many games for us, but we knew he was good. Very good.

However, sometimes it's not about the money. It's about what's right for the player. There can be no better club in the world right now for John Stones than Everton. He's playing under a manager who believes in him, who'll give him game time, and he's surrounded by top class professionals who will help guide him. No one at Barnsley begrudges John that.

I hope Everton can break in to that top 4. You're a proper club, run right. I hope you continue to look after John Stones and can resist the huge bids that are bound to come in for him. He needs a solid footballing education. A continuation of what he got with us. He's getting that at Everton, but I'm fearful he won't if he goes elsewhere.

Best of luck with what remains of the campaign. There are plenty of people in Barnsley willing you on to that Champions League spot. I can't remember the last time I saw an English team so comprehensively outplay Man Utd like you did yesterday.

good to hear mate. he won't forget where he came from and i know he'll be talking about your club who gave him in the chance when he wins honours, gets 100 international caps etc.

he is something special, i must add, still in awe over that performance vs fulham a few weeks back. i think he has a good chance of being 1st choice next to jagielka next season. starting centre back for the 5th best team in britain at the age of 20 is pretty special.

good luck in the fight for the drop, don't think you'll stay up myself, but all the best anyway (y)

...just checked, best price available for him making the World Cup is down to 10-1, he's as low as 4-1 with BetFred.

if england pick an experienced "best XI" i don't think they'll have enough to go through anyway. personally think they need to be looking at getting players like stones, sterling, barkley etc. games now in preparation for next WC. i don't see what players like gerrard and lampard would get from it or what england would get from them if picked tbh.

He's played well alongside Lacaraz before though i think mate, seem to remember in the league cup they partnered

Basically do what the Germans did 4 years ago. I fully agree.

I can't understand his composure. At his age for a centre half it's literally unheard of. Ever! He hasn't looked flustered by anything once. Even when he makes the very rare mistake he's like "ah well" and moves on.

For all Barkley's talent you can see him visibly be affected by the flow of the game and the occasion, which is something that he will work out of his game over the next season or so, but Stones has absolutely no concerns about anything. It's like a complete faith in his ability.

The lad is 19 FFS. It's legit incomprehensible what he is doing. Even the best centre-halves to ever play the game wasn't like this at 19.

Very gracious and tbh mate you can be proud of the lad and where he is heading which will be the very top of the game imo. The thing I ,love about him is his confidence and the fact he actually seems to be just a real sound lad with it.

In case you missed it we've already nicknamed him the Barnsley Beckenbauer here :)
