John Stones

I'd been scouting Stones for a few of years prior to us signing him and had been very impressed. It was no surprise to me when he signed up professionally for Barnsley in December 2011. Wasn't surprised Moyes went in for him as i'd tipped him for big things.

I was particularly impressed with his goal against Rochdale on the 11th of August 2012, watching from the stands there were clear signs of a future top drawer talent.

The latest example in how bloody good David Moyes is at spotting a bargain. Fortunately, he's gone now so he didn't have a chance to Magaye Gueye the lad into no mans land.
He wasn't the only one. He wasn't an exclusive spot by Moyes, its just that we couldn't afford a ready to go CB. Martinez virtually had him signed until Everton showed interest. When Stones selected Everton over Wigan Martinez phoned Stones to wish him all the best.

...and the stars re-align

Wouldn't be surprised if Moyes goes in for him actually. He's got to replace Ferdinand and Vidic close season if he's still in the job. Hopefully Stones would see here as a better place to develop however.

Martinez - how to win friends and influence people.. Stones and Jags at the back with Seamus and Baines.. as good is it's ever going to get. A future Bobby Moore alongside one of the top 3 English centre-backs with the best two full backs in the PL bar none.

Roberto knew alll along.

I don't follow much of the young English talents but having watched Everton this season, many players have impressed and not the least of which is the young Stones...First couple of appearances I thought he showed the typical youth mistakes you can see with a defender but in no short time his transformation has been remarkable...Extremely confident going forward with the ball, assured really for a central defender - clearly adds to the attack as well as defense

Excellent looking prospect

I stand by my suggestion he's going to be a better CM than a CB, and yesterday gave a few examples of why that might be.

I remember seeing Pique at United at that same age. The difference was that Pique was even then completely in charge of the space around him. He was born to be a ball playing CB, but also had that defensive urgency about him. I dont think Stones shows that. Not yet anyway. Maybe having Ferdinand alongside rather than Distin helps.

He had a couple of dribbles that really impressed me, not so much the touch he had but the awareness of the space around him - it was very assured, I think that's a rare quality in central defenders
