Have any of his 'mistakes' cost us so far? The only one I can think of was pre-season against tranmere when he tried to skin their forward and lost possessio and they scored.

...I admit to not being happy when I saw him at RB last night ("square pegs round holes") but I thought he was terrific. He truly is a class act. He's got a telescopic slide tackle and it should've been a pen but he/we got away with it. Terrific footballer, major talent.

That's a bit harsh isn't it?
He reads the game beautifully, something that's hard to teach.
Just makes sketch decisions occasionally.
I dont think it is. He's a defender. He's no good to anyone in that primary role if he's making daft and costly decisions inside the box.

But the way he sees a pass before it's being made and strides out to intercept: that's defensive acumen.
I think his positioning and composure are usually spot on too: again defensive acumen.
I think questioning the odd decision is kosher, to go from that to your quote is a big stretch imo.

He does anticipate well, yes. Inside the box dealing with crosses or having to front up an attacker already with the ball at his feet is a different matter though.

There's two heads you wear as a defender: the one that assesses possibilities outside the box; the other that recognises the perils of dealing with situations inside the box. I guarantee you that he'll cost us again before too long. His attitude looks to be that he'll do things his way and that he's not going to be circumspect in the box with decision making.

Well that's entirely the point: he's not a top class defender and he underlines that whenever he slides around in the area upending attackers and disadvantaging his own team.

What should be done is that he should be on the bench until he gets the message. This is a football club's season, not a play pen for him to try outlandish things out in. If Coleman hadn't have been injured it'd have been interesting to see what Martinez would have done with the three CBs he has.

So you'd drop him?

I imagine he'd have dropped Mori and used the head injury as an excuse. Guess we'll find out when they're all fit.

Yes. He's erratic. Funes Mori has outperformed him as a defender for weeks. If Jagielka is as good as everyone says then he has to partner him.

As said, if Coleman was fit the manager has a big decision to make.
