I think he is potentially a great player but I don't think he is the centre back for us and I don't think we are the team for him. His decision making will not improve under a manager who encourages him to play out from the back on all occasions, he needs a coach who will tear him a new one for not finding row z when needed. If there really is 50 million on the table we need to take it and sign a no nonsense quick centre back, a good keeper and a striker

The lad needs to realise what his job is and learn how to do it.....
Yeah we understand he is very good technically and is good on the ball,
But his decision making is not all that, worryingly the list of average players that have sussed him out is increasing and he's making more mistakes,
the lad needs to learn how to defend as its the one area he's lacking in

Doesn't help him being a young player and having his head turned by transfer fees and commentary about him being a future England captain. But I agree, he is under the wrong manager for his development as a defender. Look at the far less naturally talented Ashley Williams and his outstanding performance today.

He doesn't want to be here - put in a transfer request 5 months ago.
He is indulged by his manager to over play and when castigated acts like a spoilt child.
It appears that he believes all the hype about him.

Clearly he has so wonderful attributes but Everton's first XI is not a development team.
£50 million for a centre half that cant defend- yes please.

To me he looks like his head and is heart are not in it. Whether he feels like the club has not treated him fairly, or he feels the criticism he receives is unwarranted I'm not sure but he just looks like someone who feels like he has been hard done to. He needs to realise that when things are going badly the fans are vocal because they are passionate, rightly or wrongly, what makes them even more vocal is when you don't display the same level of passion.

Got to remember he's 21. I'd rather see Jags/Funes Mori at the moment but that doesn't mean I think he's a turncoat Judas who is having a strop and not trying, or that he thinks he's too good for us.

He's going to be one of the best CBs in the world but he needs to be allowed to make mistakes. When those mistakes are coming at a time when the team as a whole can't cope with them, due to the mistakes of others and the collective (and manager!) then it's the manager's job to take the pressure off of him. I don't think resting him for a few games is the worst idea.

Ultimately though I can live with a 21 year old making mistakes. I can't however, forgive the 36 year clown in goal doing the same week in, week out nor the manager with 9 years of managerial experience for sticking by him.

He needs a manager who understands defending. Doesn't have that with Bobby. I do feel that the reason the defense and Howard try to play out the back and play themselves into trouble is down to instruction from the manager. That said, use your brain.
