Jon Platt Term Time Holidays

The government makes plenty of VAT on holidays, why on earth would they get involved?

Just do away with School and Teachers.

Imagine being told no to something you want to do in life because Kenneth in Dover says you were one mark away from the required grade.

I do totally understanding parents being annoyed about the prices, it does my head in as well but they should be getting the government to address it with travel agents not making it more difficult for hard working teachers.

Imagine trying to sell ten nights in 'old Benidorm' to a family of five in August for £9000, attempting to wash over the fact the Big T Club can no longer afford to do CAB checks on their staff. That's hard work.

There's no better education for a child than watching their father, on day eight, wake up at 5am to 'beat the Germans' only to break down crying when he sees the towel is already on the sun lounger.

I'm a teacher and I just don't agree with Jon Platt thinking it's fine to take children out off school for a holiday (unless exceptional circumstances). I understand prices are ridiculous during the summer holidays but that's not the schools fault. I can't just tell my head teacher that I am not paying the over priced amount for a holiday so won't be coming in for a week or two during term time. The government should be telling the travel agents they can't put prices up and set up a law to stop all this.

I have had kids in my class before who have taken holidays and I can say they miss out on important work and it can be difficult to catch them back up with the rest of the class who have moved on to something else. It means teachers have to use their own time to help these children with the work they have missed.

I don't understand the high court ruling in his favour as it's just allowing parents to do what they want now. This will mean more and more kids will be off making it increasing difficult for teachers when it's hard enough as it is with the demands in place.

Missing the last week of term to go on holiday never harmed us.. It's a disgrace that they can dictate when you can go on holiday. It's about time people stood up to schools and the government.
