Jonjoe Kenny

If Kenny's contract is being extended it is weird, ok I know he will be on low wages, but, he is just not good enough. We have at right back Patterson and Coleman, we have Holgate and Godfrey who can act as emergency back up, if we are really stuck we have Iwobi. No matter how small his wages are it is still money which could be better used toward paying the wage of a loan player or free transfer who may well give us cover where we desperately need it.

He seems to be Lampard's version of Moyes Neville / Silva's Gomes.

3 years man shocking if true. 1 year deal with Coleman sent to the glue factory I can understand but 3 yikes.

Patterson/Coleman
Mykolenko/Nkounkou
Godfrey played both sides

Please explain why Kenny is required.
To be absolutely clear - I do not think Kenny is required. I think a utility player is required.

Let's just unpack the logic from your post for a second though and look at those players you've listed:

Patterson: Hasn't played a single second for us - will he be good enough? Bloody hope so but no idea.
Coleman: Almost 34 and was god-awful for most of the season.

Mykolenko: The only one in this list you could point at and say has nailed down his place.
Nkounkou: Will he be here next season? Do people in the club rate him? God knows.

Godfrey: Did very well under Ancelotti when asked to play left-back, but we know Lampard likes to play 3 at the back, and he certainly isn't a wing-back.

Is Kenny the answer? Absolutely not.

Yes, the bold is all you need to say really. Regardless of other players inexperience they are ALL better in all positions than Kenny. He has no relevance. It's like us signing a 4th first team keeper "just because".

Terrible news but not surprising to me at all. Hopefully he turns it down to pursue a new opportunity, but let's be honest, he won't. Nobody will be offering the wages Everton would.

I'm pleased there is someone in 2022 called Jonjoe, playing in the premier league for everton makes it even better

You seem to have picked an argument with me without understanding either my point or even your own - which is an interesting tactic, I’ll give you that.

This statement is undeniably true: Kenny was required to play 21 games this season in a number of positions due to injuries and lack of squad-depth.

Will we have injuries next season? Yes. Will losing a utility player like Kenny improve our squad-depth? No. Should we be looking for better quality than Kenny? Yes. Will bringing in a better quality version of Kenny cost more than simply renewing his contract? Yes. Should we be offering Kenny a new contract? No.

Hope that helps.
