Yeah I agree with your general point.

I think Davies kind of proves the point I was trying to make. As you say, he wasn't necessarily a stand out performer for the under 23s, but there was a reason why he was given his debut at 17 while other, older, players haven't been. The manager and coaches saw something in him. His performance in that game might have catapulted him into our thoughts, but the coaches had obviously already recognised he was the real deal. DCL is evidently the same, we might not see why but it's clear he's very highly rated. If the staff don't believe another player will make, history says it's highly likely they're right.

I'd like to say it was a clear plan, and certainly what happens behind closed doors is important but a fair bit of it is pot luck. Davies came on initially because of an injury. What you can say about him though, is he has taken his chance.

Steve Walsh, Everton’s Director of Football, said the Blues have given the players permission to travel with England despite the first-team squad still having to play Arsenal in their final game of the campaign on 21 May.

Presuming that means they are all still here on Friday. Doesn't say on the link.
Good point, I'd skim read that and just noted they wouldn't be here available for Arsenal and made the assumption was Watford as well.

Kenny as right wing back then?

Edit, appears not..

The thing I like about Kenny is he sounds an attacking full back but has also played at centre back so you would think he'll be good on the cover. Best comparison maybe would be Gary Neville who was a right back in a four but was equally comfortable at RCB or RWB in a 5. The only thing that slightly against him is his height and that is why he is a full back and not a centre back.

Come on mate, the lad has barely played

To me looks like a carbon copy of a younger Coleman and/or Baines but better defensively than both.

Should be given opportunities to stake his claim for Coleman's place in pre-season before signing another right back as cover.

We have so many positions in urgent need of strengthening that right back can wait for me. Get the other positions sorted first (keeper, Centre back(s), Striker(s), winger, attacking midfielder), give Kenny a good run of pre season games and if Koeman is then still not sure, chase a right back later in the window.

Agree with this completely. The Gary Neville shouts are good ones.

But it is these types of comparisons that always lead to too much pressure on players or just general disappointment

I refer you to James McCarthy being "the next Roy Keane" as one example Neil

He wasnt was he....
