Even if Koeman were to slot Kenny into the first team next season he could very likely hit a brick wall in his development midway through the season. Galloway looked like he couldn't do any wrong in his debut season until he came up against certain players (can't rmb who). Having senior cover for that position isn't the worst idea in the world.

Was the Swiss hobbit with Galloway

That's all I'm saying. And he deserves to be given his chance to show he can transfer that to the first team. Same as Kenny.

To give Dave some backup here, Dowell has abilities that are very rare in football. His spacial awareness, weight of pass and vision are fantastic and as good as any young player I've seen at Everton. Probably on a par with Rooney (though Rooney was far more advanced in most other departments). Lots of people don't like Ozil, he doesn't charge around pressing, tackle, track back or look like he massively cares but at creating chances for players he is as good as anyone.

I thought Dowell did ok last pre-season and was bombed out quickly which surprised me. If you look at his run for Besic's goal against MK Dons it's fantastic. Carries the ball 50 yards before laying in a lad who creates the goal.

He's the anti-Barkley in many ways.

As for Kenny the lad is very good. He needs to be given a start. He's good going forward but also a very strong defender. He played centre half most of his youth career and was a very solid centre back if a little too small. He is reminiscent of Coleman at a similar age but I think he has a higher ceiling.

he will do extremely well to do better than Coleman, been a great rb, do agree kenny looks good though and deserves his chance ... he has pre season for that

Best argument I've seen yet for getting Martina.

All just hinges for me on whether he gives Kenny that chance first.

If Cuco Martina gets games over Kenny it's not a case of 'trusting the manager' i'd lose complete faith in him, people can't have a go at bobby for being full of crap then next manager say crap about how managers should trust young players to the press while allowing his favorites to play (Williams Stek until injured, Bolasie couldn't be dropped until injured and now giving jobs for the boys in buying Cuco)

If Martina is as abject as some people are making out (and he obviously is not) then the lack of faith should be aimed towards Kenny rather than Koeman as he wont be doing enough to dislodge him from the side.

No manager purposely plays weaker sides to give "jobs to the boys" as you put it. If you sit back and think about it that's a ridiculous notion as its his job on the line at the end of the day.

Williams has been alright, not great but probably our best centre back this season, Stekelenburg was fine at first and was always just a squad man (and a decent enough one really) and anyone judging Bolasie on a handful of games before his leg fell off is being a bit silly really.

a loan or free signing would be perfect sense for back up/temporary experienced player, not seen martina but we need cover for europe, didnt coleman have a poor season in the league the last time we were in euros

Completely agree mate.

Given Coleman's injury and the paucity of cover right along the back line I'd be surprised if Kenny and Martina were not in the squad. Koeman's handling of Davies Holgate and DCL show that if he's good enough he'll get a chance.

I've said a few times mate that Dowell's skill set and languid style remind me very much of Matt Le Tissier. You can see Tiss in some of his goals too.

We have some very good young players at Everton at the moment and it's important that we find a way to give them first team football. Players like Kenny, Walsh and Dowell all need to get open age exposure next season and hopefully the cups/Europa games will allow that. But it's no use just playing the kids in games en bloc like we did against Krasnodar. They need to be playing alongside experienced players.

Deulofeu, Barkley and Dowell are our best players. They're going to be inconsistent because they're young. They don't bear comparison with the older players you mention.
Im not surprised you think Barkley, Del, and Dowell are our best players, and it further confirms the fact that they arent.
