Disagree. Part of the reason we couldn't create anything is they didn't have any issue with allowing Martina the freedom to cross because he couldn't pick anyone out

....from an attacking perspective I think the difference is that Martina is a 'safe' outlet in the attacking third. I'm not criticising him, but he tends to get the ball in a wide position ahead of the opposition back four and whip in a decent cross. He won't usually go past his opposite number, normally one touch and release.

Coleman and Kenny take more of a chance in that they look to get behind the opposition back for. The positions they take up are much more threatening but Martina does have quality in his crossing ability. I'd prefer the greater risk. The other thing with Kenny is he gives the crowd a lift.

He was and is.

No he's a completely horrendous footballer of course, but he wasn't awful by his standards I mean. Made a good clearance off the line and didn't do anything terrible defensively.

Having an actual footballer in Kenny there made a huge difference, though.

Martina was gifted all the time in the world today and created nothing the lad can't cross do you know how hard it is to generate any sort of power of those weak arse floating crosses he's terrible only positive he has to his game is pace that's it...

We are making him an easy scapegoat, he done well first and ok second half..

I doubt very much he'll be starting regularly, but, now we've got that nightmare run of fixtures out of the way, I would expect him to be more involved with the first team squad.

If he'd been thrown in at the deep end against the likes of Chelsea, Spurs, city and United and struggled then it could have knocked his confidence a bit ( I can imagine half of GOT writing him off as being crap if he had struggled ) so I can see why he hadn't figured until Wednesday.
I'd have believed that was Koemans reasoning a lot more if he hadn't done his best to knock Kenny's confidence all by himself by criticizing him in the press.

Kenny was on a confidence high after the world cup win, not even being in the squad for the league games or given any minutes in the cup games prior to Sunderland was probably not the best way to maintain that if Koeman was trying to so.

I think if he comes on against Man U, it's a completely different story. Koeman is doing the right thing. HOWEVER, it's his time now Martina just can't defend and although he can whip in a decent cross, agree with the posters above that he had all day to do it today and didn't do much with it. And it's all the SAME cross. Siggy was just crying for the ball on the ground at the 18 at one point and he just didn't even look his way. Jonjoe's defending is better and against Bournemouth and the lower table clubs, he'll get the ability to go forward. It's his time with our upcoming schedule.

Maybe, but let's be honest - you have absoutely nothing to back that up. It might have motivated Kenny, who knows.

I'm not one for jumping on bandwagon pal check the Niasse thread from start to finish...

This lad cannot strike a football Kenny's first two crosses today were far more effective than ive seen all season from Martina

Kenny actually knows how to put a bit of whip on the ball not just hoof it meaninglessly

True, and Kenny certainly has shown he is a pretty strong character like taking the winning penalty in the U17s Euros, but not quite sure why Koeman didn't mix in a bit of carrot as well as the stick as Kenny has never been the type to not put effort in yet Koeman seems to have almost gone out of his way to freeze him out until now.

Or, to put it another way, unlike three or four of our younger players, Kenny wasn't sent out on loan which should have told him, and everyone else, that he had the confidence of the coaching staff who believed he was ready to be in and around the first team, whereas the likes of Dowell, Galloway, Browning, Pennington and Walsh have been farmed out for a bit.

Heh, if it was me, I'd have played him before the Sunderland game, but football fans are hopeless romantics and want to see young local lads playing every week. What seems to be happening with Kenny is pretty much exactly what happened with Davies last season. On the bench a bit, brought on, does well and will now hopefully get a few starts. Unless a youngster is massively talented, this is what happens at almost all clubs.
