My worst fears are becoming a reality...

Pickfords rash behaviour is creating panic in our defence & it's spreading like a disease, his actions are too hastily & shows lack of maturity & judgement he is becoming a very unreliable keeper.

Keepers need to be confident, sensible, reliable & make good judgement calls during a game,Pickford seems to get more excited & reckless the more important the game becomes, impetuous & impulsive performances are becoming his forte which is not helping our defence as their lack of trust in our keeper becomes ever more apparent...

I have been saying this for some time now. Pickford can be brilliant and he can be gash. The one thing he never is, is consistent, and that means he is unreliable and unsettles his defence.

His problems are not lack of ability, but imho, lack of maturity and poor decision making. He needs taking out of the firing line for his own good - and ours!

In fairness he’s faced more scrutiny than just about any goalkeeper I can remember as his initial good form isn’t henWorld Cup angered elements of the kopite media who couldn’t wait to jump on him as soon as he started the season. He’s under immense pressure every week whereas other keeers such as Leno Allison Lloris De Gea can make awful errors yet they’re barely mentioned. I feel like he’s trying too hard now and the mistakes are occurring. Needs a few weeks out of the limelight. Saying that, the finish from Son for the first one was ridiculous when you have players missing open goals from a yard out v the RS.

The pressure and the scrutiny goes with the territory. You either wilt under it or grow from it and Pickford is wilting.

Sheedy always got a hard time when we went to play at the pit but it didn't stop him from playing superbly, scoring and giving the kop the fingers. That's character and, to be fair, it isn't just Pickford who needs help in that department.

Honestly, this media scritiny must have passed me by.

He's been scrutinesed on this forum, but apart from here I can think of no news outlet where Pickford has been under the microscope. Certainly not in his capacity as Eveeton GK.

He doesn't learn, that's his problem.

Case in point yesterday: literally 5 minutes before his catastrophy running into Zouma for the Son goal, he comes to the edge of his area and is stranded and almost lobbed by Kane.

The lad is hard of learning.

Pickford is still rather young for a goalie, at 24.
Here's what happened with a previous goalie of ours who was 24 at the time

'On 6 November 1982, he conceded five goals in a 5–0 defeat to Mersey rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park. Kendall then dropped Southall as part of a shake-up at the club. He spent January and February on loan at John McGrath's Port Vale, and played nine Fourth Division games.'

He needs to really want to be the best. Southall did, with ruthless dedication to training. Whether Pickford does, whether he wilts, believes the summer hype or genuinely improves is up to him.

24 these days is prime age for most keepers

No I want him to calm down and concentrate on the game, stop his mad rushes out of the area when thre is no need for them, I want him to takecommand of his six yard area, stop his quick kick outs which go out of play or straight to the opposition goalkeeper, in other words ask his coach for some help , he really needs it at the moment, or do you think he is playing well at the moment?

I have said he is playing badly!

The way some are acting you would think he was doing it on purpose.

Cant remember Southall ever strolling round thinking he was Dino Zoff or Sepp Maier the way Pickford thinks he's Gianluigi Buffon or Manuel Neuer.

He has far less media scrutiny on him than the keepers in the top 4/5.

He is generally overhyped by the national media on the basis of some spectacular saves in the world cup which has very little relevance to Prem/European football.

I think he is just a couple of inches too short for today's game at the very highest level. He has nil confidence in himself to come and collect any crosses and that feeds into the rather static centre halves we currently employ.

His kicking and decision making has been rather erratic from day 1.

I also think his reaction saves are given more credit than they deserve because they look so spectacular. He has to cover more ground and dive further than the
other much taller top class keepers.

He is open to plenty of improvment and the great man was dropped early into his Everton career but I think he lacks the fundamentals of a truly elite keeper.
