2019/20 Jordan Pickford

Agree with most of this. But his ego is huge and definitely lacking in intelligence.
His positioning is awful at the moment and costing us a lot of goals. He parries shots back into the danger area. They must be working on him because in the last few games he has been coming off his line to claim crosses. So maybe they might iron our his positioning difficulties

Is he not a bit too set in his goal keeping ways to learn afresh?

It's the Pickford haters that would rather make out it was his fault for the first rather than actually saying that it was a top class finish from mount

tbf mate he's been piss poor this season so the majority of critiscm is warranted.

I just don't think that shot at the near post is saveable. What I would say though is Pickford sees everything in front of him and he should be telling Keane to move off his bloody 6 yard box and go and press the player.

I don't think he organises the defence well at all, doesn't paint a picture for them of what's around them enough

Keane absolutely crap though so I probably wouldn't want to chat to him either.

Well done, Jordan. Just the 4 conceded. Here's your MOTM award.

WTF have we become?
Team game that's what we have become, rather than blame individuals because of an axe grind.
And there are times he has been at fault. Continuing to highlight him when he actually been one of the better players lessens his negatives. That entire back line was awful, including Holgate and Digne, also midfield including Gomes, pants. For most part our outfield players were in a training match allowing them to get shots off so easily, ridiculous defending.

He's a clown and needs to be punted.

This business of saying he was 'the best player for us' was what was said when he was letting in scores of goals at Sunderland.

We're not Sunderland.

We defended like Sunderland. Have to accept that as a team performance yesterday we were awful. Pickord kept score away from being 7 or 8 nil. That's how outfield play wise poor we were.

Does anyone else notice when he makes a good save he kind of looks around with an arrogant smirk on his face as if to say "I cant believe I'm this good"? Most keepers when they get in a zone have glassy eyes and an incredible focus that they only relinquish after the final whistle but here's JP giving it the large one even after conceding three or four.
I get confidence at this level is a must have but he's borderline delusional at the best of times and would probably have way more support on here if he was a bit more humble about it all!

Thought he was one of the few plus points today.

Can’t blame him for any of the 4 goals, absolutely horrific defending.

Could have been 6 but for a couple of stunning saves.

It was his catching I liked though. Looks like he’s been working on that. Don’t think he punched it once today???

what? lol

He didn't make 1 stunning save

Pickford had a good game yesterday, in reality we were far more than 4 goals worse than Chelsea on the day and Pickford’s performance kept the score line semi respectable. Having said that I will also say that I am by no means convinced by Pickford, he thinks he is far better than he actually is, the truth of the matter is, he is a good keeper, who, with lots of work on the training ground, could become a very good keeper.

He, if he has the intelligence, should look at Joe Hart and think, ‘that could be me in a couple of years’. He has the same kind of ability Hart had, but, unfortunately, a similar attitude. He has far too big an ego.

To be fair to Hart, he was top dog at City. Won 2 league titles, 2 fa cups, 3 league cups, 4 golden gloves.

Just cos he can't pass or kick the ball out well, Pep bought Bravo in and practically killed him. Never recovered since.

Personally...we need more confident egos like him as it's what winners have.. Just need to the talent to back it up. Which for this season, Pickford as had a mare.

Cant agree with you on that , it is precisely because of Pickford's ego and over confidence that he has not inproved since he joined. He already thinks he the finished article, as did Hart a few years ago. Hence the comparison.

Hart was in a position winning trophies to have that ego. No other English keeper was "better" than him at that period.

The thing Pickford needs is competition and a reality check eg dropping from the England squad etc That's where you'll see if he's any good.

Carlo doesn't see him as a problem so he's here for longer.

Exactly, my point, what Pickford needs to have is a reality check, which would go a long way along the road to dealing with his massive over confidence and huge ego.

He may well become a very good keeper, but, as I said, his biggest problem is his mentality.

Such a lack of understanding as to what makes a class player and how different periods of games sort out the men from the boys.

You need Pickford to be at his best when we are `in a game'. When its 0-0 or 1-0 etc. When you are 4-0 down there is no pressure
on anyone - the whole team gets stick.

Its why Tony Cottee sometimes got stick. He loved a hatrick against Grimsby in the league cup or when notches a couple when your already 2-0 up v Norwich.

Wat about when its 0-0 or your 1-0 down away at Lpool, United or Arsenal.

Hmmm, reading this it must be bad judgement by Carlo then? Perhaps he should have dropped him for Stekkie? Seriously, what we do want is a decent backup to put pressure on the first choice keeper.
