Have we been linked to any keepers of late, was there a mention of Sirigu at one point?

It pains me to think he'll still be first choice when we're back, four seasons now of this wretched keeper in the sticks for us.

It's worse he's getting too, I'd take pretty much anyone at this point.
I think Brands and Carlo know he’s going to be really difficult to offload given what he’s on here for wages and how he’s performed the last couple seasons. He’s our burden now. Doesn’t mean we can’t find a cheap young keeper or loan someone to give him a run. But I doubt it’ll be a known quantity.

What a dramatic loss of form between then and now. Again I don't blame the board giving him that, keepers tend to stay at a club longer and you would have expected Pickford at his age to keep getting better. In hindsight everything is easier, had he stayed at the same level and we gave him a 4 year deal, 2 of those would have been used and one more season and he could have been off for buttons or for a free at the end of his contract. Just imagine the stick we would have given them for not tying him down longer. All it shows is that the is a very fine line to walk when running a club.

We can still swing that smugness around though, we just have to have the balls to drop him to the bench and make him work harder to win back the shirt.

...there was a story I read about how hard he worked during lockdown and how conscientious he was keeping in contact with the coaches. The concern is, he seems to be working hard.

Jack Butland in from Stoke and let the best man win

He was so good when he was just coming through. What the hell are we doing to keepers that they turn to mush?

Oh dear, in that case we are buggered. Still think dropping him might be the only way for a true reevaluation of what he wants and how he acts on a football pitch.

I guess the worry is that who would want to buy him? We'd need decent money for him, but in the form he's in I'd be surprised if anyone went anywhere near him.

He;s clearly got some sort of issue, maybe concentration as it's a lot of the basics he keeps making mistakes with. Personally I'd like to see him gone and for us to bring someone in a bit more commanding who looks like he can catch crosses.

...that 6 year contract extension he was given after the World Cup might have fended off his suitors but it can also make a player smug. Expensive millstone.

Lesson Learned - avoid 6 year contracts.

Bloody hell 6 years?

It literally only makes sense to tie down undeniable world class talents to contracts that long ffs

...seen it so much, an overreaction with players impressing in World Cups (I call it Phil Babb syndrome). DoFs should know the game well enough to be wary of it and cash in when you have one who’s value soars above its true worth.
