I would not be a bit surprised. The level of hostility directed at him by his own fans was just as bad if not worse though, coming as it did from Evertonians. One thing to have an opinion or not rate the guy, but posting dinosaur pictures and memes ripping the piss out of him on social media is not a sensible thing to do if you want one of your own players to improve! It would get to anyone.
I can well imagine his situation is like schizophrenia, only the voices ripping the p#ss out of him and abusing him on a daily basis were actually real and the television really was talking about him and calling him names!

Pickford having to deal with the abuse and death threats from the scum across the park, together with having to hire security etc, has given Carlo the perfect opportunity to drop him ‘for his own good’. There’s no way a manger of his standing can have been having Pickford this season though, and if Olsen has a good game today I’d expect him to keep his place and Carlo can merely say he deserves his chance.
