I presume the "wider footballing consciousness" does not include Southgate or Carlo? Big Sams Undies has gone quiet(?) or whatever clouds his judgement is immoveable. To repeat, I do not rate Pickford at all, but he is not "the worst etc ,etc etc"
I’ve gone quiet because you didn’t quote me, I didn’t know you’d replied.

He’s the worst in the league over the past 3 years. No other goalkeeper that’s played for us, that I can think of, would have held that dubious honour.

I'd say last two. And only if you aren't counting Kepa since he was replaced. But he was passable in 18/19, imo. Not that any of this doesn't make him absolutely atrocious or mean that Olsen shouldn't be starting automatically.

There must be some youngish fans on here if they think Pickford is the worst ever keeper they have seen play for Everton. I am old enough to remember some pretty crappy keepers who never got close to playing for their country, except maybe for Scotland and their keepers were always a joke anyway.

I’m no fan of Jordan Pickford but the England goalkeeping coach coming out on sky and analysing his errors whilst bigging up Pope and Henderson is the last thing he needs.

Most would’ve been old enough to see Paul Gerrard and there aren’t many who’ve played for the club worse than him

As bad as he is; and he terrible, can't quite put replacing him as a top priority this transfer window.

We need to first figure out whether we are sticking with the 433 or going 4231.

If we are sticking with the 433, we need a better CM than Gomes. If we are switching, we need a high work rate winger with pace.

Then after choosing between those 2, replacing Picks is the next priority

He's one of the worst players in the league at his position and an actual liability every time he starts. Unfortunately we can't start building the outfield up until we get at least competence in net.

Which is also why it might make sense to give Olsen 5 games and see where we are.

spot on - we have a huge handicap against the field by carrying the worst keeper in the PL. It is in relative terms an easy & affordable problem position to address, especially given our managers knowledge of European markets.

The domino effect is massive, keeper calms nerves & centre backs play better, meaning a bit more more freedom for the fullbacks, the Centre mids aren't spending the day looking over their shoulders & thus support the forwards more effectively. Pickford is not to blame for all our frailties, but a good keeper would help improve a lot of them. You only have to look across the way to see the difference in outfield performance when Adrian (better than pickford btw) plays compared to Alison.

It's all true, but I'm not sure Adrian is better than Pickford. He is also pretty diabolical.
