It’s like sky’s article on how things are right compared to 5 years ago. It mentions Pickford once, then goes on to attribute it to the defense, specifically, McGuire. Sterling is of course now a miracle and Kane is now a revelation. Makes me sick.

Not to be pedantic but it’s Maguire not McGuire

Well maybe that was harsh, but I don’t particularly care for the fella as a football player.

Me too, Pickford kept us in the tournament in the early stages.

You would appear to be assessing his 90s form based on one cup final save. Did you miss the six put past him by QPR at Goodison? All the world's greatest keepers had a top period in their career but that doesn't mean they were the best from beginning to end.

No he's not.

Looks good in a defensive team that plays deep with two defensive midfielders in front of him, but any defender could be in that set up.

He's not the quickest and one of those cumbersome defenders who's slow on the turn who would be laughably exposed in a high line, top CBs can look good in both setups, Maguire only looks good in a defensively set up team mentioned in the first paragraph.

….I watched him closely when we played Hull away a few years ago. He was MoM by a mile & got the accolades afterwards.

Ironically, I was in the Directors Box sitting behind Steve Walsh & I was hoping he was as impressed as me. This season at Goodison I thought he handled DCL as well as anybody. Like you, I like rapid and mobile defenders but I don’t think Maguire is a slouch.

Assessment is a matter of opinion, I rate Maguire. United paid a lot of money & he’s now 1st choice for his country, so I’m clearly not alone with that view. Pity Steve Walsh wasn’t as impressed as me that night in Hull.

Did I say that was the case?

Not sure what argument it is you are trying to make but if you think Martyn was anywhere near Southall them I'm guessing you werent around to see Southall at his best.

He was unbelievable.
