….what you see is what you get. Despite everybody thinking he‘s super matured under the guidance of his psychologist, he’ll always be erratic with a blunder around the corner.

i’ve always been of this view but beyond his mental fragility I don’t think he commands his box like a top keeper should. I’d replace him if an offer comes in but we do have bigger issues to resolve.

Goalies are a bit loose cannoned.
The occasion got to him last night.
Remember he's only 27 and getting death threats, employed a bodyguard at one time.
He's done well.

His kicking went wonky for a spell when he got understandably excited towards the end, but he reined it in.
Other than that he was fine, though non-T-Rex arms might have dealt with the free kick.

Thing is, all good keepers have a bit of a screw loose. What Pickford has lacked before is the ability to control his emotions.

There was a minute or two in the Ukraine game where he lost the plot a bit, but recovered well. Which is encouraging as he never used to recover.

He's approaching his prime and it shows in my eyes. I think he's a very good goalkeeper and will only get better over the next five years.
He’s always had a weakness from free-kicks - he did it again yesterday, taking a step to his left before the shot. And yes, because he’s a smaller goalkeeper, he couldn’t make up the ground with his reach.

my only worry is it came in the midst of a 10/15-min spell where he lost his head a bit. But the whole team had. Rice and Phillips were getting overrun, Maguire was lunging in everywhere and only Walker was doing his job.

As you say, if he just keeps the lid on his emotions and focuses, he’s a good goalkeeper. The media can’t wait to turn on him despite somehow managing to blame it all on Everton fans.

he’s never going to be world class now, but he’s played a key role in England teaching two major semi-finals. He was poor for us in the first half of last season but came good in the second half - the rest of the team and manager failed him at that point.

The real howler last night was from Schmeichel, not Pickford

….those issues are a disgrace & he’s doing terrific to continue regardless. Saying that, the erratic behaviour, gaffs and inconsistent performances were evident pre-VvD. It’s how he is, his career will be polar.

Some keepers get called world class though even though they make errors all the time. Lloris a case in point, I don’t think he’s ever been consistent. Ederson was terrible the season before last, Allison was very poor in my opinion last season. Do they get told to ‘calm down’ or that they’ve ‘lost their head’? What about Kepa, I can’t remember him ever being told to calm down even when he wouldn’t come off as a substitute.

There’s definite lines being taken by the media for Pickford which in my opinion are just not deserved. Sure I was more annoyed than almost anyone on here at his form in the first half of the season but there’s a difference between calling a keeper in poor form poor and then undermining a keeper in good form for no reason.

Shilton was responsible for two World Cup exits in my opinion. Barely got off the ground against Argentina and Germany twice. Seaman flapped in Ronaldinho’s cross against Brazil. Neither were particularly good in any penalty shoot outs or made any stand out saves in key knockout games in big moments I can remember. Then there was Joe Hart who basically couldn’t catch a ball by the time euro 2016 happened. I can’t remember any of these keepers being labelled erratic, being told to calm down, or keep their head, every time they sliced a clearance?

Large parts of the media don’t like Jordan Pickford because of what happened with Van Dijk and they’ll never ever get over it. It wasn’t his best game last night but all you can really point to is a few dodgy kicks from goal that led to nothing and a subjective debatable should he have saved what was an absolute rocket of a free kick. Compare that to England keepers of the past literally throwing the ball in their own net and if that’s the worst he’s been for England in a major tournament then that’s nothing to be criticising.

I disagree, here. He clearly gets nervy and jittery and it spirals. You get the feeling he just needs to take five minutes and have a word. I do not get that with the other keepers you mention, they do not get jittery as such, they just make different errors.
