2022/23 Jordan Pickford

The mad thing is Pickford has been slated a lot over recent times, but now we might be selling him all of a sudden he has turned in prime Southall in the eyes of some.
Pickford going won't relegate us, not getting a forward will
I completely agree in relation to form. It is admirable he has turned himself into one of the divisions finest keepers over the last two years. I just think part of the mess we currently are in has been from poor turnover and reluctance to sell on our best assets at peak value. At 28/29 come summer he still has a 4 year run of high end output, and possibly longer considering his position. He is at the highest quality he has been in his career. A period that we hope to simply re-establish middle table consistency.

the rest of the squad's pathway for funds is scarce. From today over the next four years my estimation is Pickford is likely most valuable as a transfer at this point.

Everton have only conceded from 22% of the Shots on Target they have faced this season, 2nd best in the league behind Newcastle who have only conceded from 18%.
Liverpool 26%, Man City 35%, Southampton worst on 43%.

On the other hand our ability to score as everyone knows is catastrophic, we have 12 goals from 58 SOT (20.69%), only West Ham 13 from 63 (20.63%) and Wolves 10 from 54 (18.52%) are worse, League average is 32%.

My point is you dont weaken the one area you are statistically strong without strengthening the area you are weakest, if you dont strengthen up top then weakening your GK position will relegate you nearly every time.

I know this seems compelling but the finishing numbers are 100% impacted by the shots being low quality. We need overall good attackers. Not just "oh he scores goals" because if we don't add creative play whoever that hypothetical goal scorer is still won't be scoring.

As for keeper Newcastles cost less than what we'll be selling Pickford for. Sell and reinvest.

Based on the fact we dont seem to even realise a football club requires a striker I have zero faith in us doing anything worthwhile in the transfer market.

He’s top 5 in the league, we need to find a way to keep hold of him. One of our most important players him
I go the other way, anytime someone we have is performing at that kind of level they should be sold and the money spent on building a pipeline of players.

Now you can argue we're not good enough at finding players to take that route but I'd rather try than stay in this limbo forever.

It depends mate. If Calvert Lewin is fit he plays (I know he’s injury prone but he’s very good when he plays). What good forward is going to agree to come in to be told they’ll only play when Calvert lewin doesn’t? It’s a tough one.

I might be old fashioned but I don’t want to be the Dortmund of the premier league, rolling over and giving our best players away to rival teams. Rather be a club that holds onto our best players.
