Juventus moved Van Der Sar to Fulham and then signed Buffon.

Lets say we got £50mil. Mamardashvili I would expect to cost around £25mil and Verbruggen perhaps £15mil.

So we'd have £25-35mil to inject into our transfer funds. I'd rather have that and a top young keeper than hold onto a 29 year old no matter how good he is.

Can't say I agree

This is more or less my point. They upgraded, and it cost. If we can tread water while getting younger with funds left over, that's a no-brainer business call. We would need to line it all up beforehand, though, which has not been a skill of the board in the past.

Why would any of them come to us when they have Man U, Chelsea and Spurs after them too. We shouldn't be in the market for a new keeper we have a really good one

You are a bad age fetishist. 29 is no age for a keeper.

It what world is a 29 year old keeper old? He has at least 6 or 7 years of prime left, and could literally play in the premier league until he's 40

He's looking it through the lens of Pickford's age two years down the road with two years remaining under contract, the likely price now and the likely price later.

It's true that keeping Pickford has a hidden cost of asset depreciation. The question is, and always should be, whether it's worthwhile to run that hidden cost rather than make a change. Keeping him is a low-risk move. Selling him takes on the risk of a new keeper not working out in return for the opportunity to solve deep problems elsewhere in the squad.

I think the smart play is to sell later if we sell, and accept that it will take a couple of seasons to plug all the leaks in the boat. I see where he's coming from, though.

Juventus also paid a world record fee for Buffon, it's not likely we'd be doing the same

The reality is the difference between someone of Pickford's quality and the great unknown is what's kept us up the last two seasons.

I don't even think I'd need to make much of a compelling argument to say that the reason we stayed up this season and Leicester and Leeds went down is because for most of the season they played two awful keepers - Ward and Meslier. Over the course of the season, they lost more points for their clubs than won them.

We'd need to get a ridiculous fee for Pickford to even consider it, in my opinion. That fee would need to approach 9 digits

Pickford is, in my opinion, the joint 3rd best keeper I've seen at Everton. Southall at no. 1 is a given, West for me, shades number 2 and I think Pickford and Martyn are just about even for number 3. Now when you take into account that the two ahead of him are Neville Southall and Gordon West, that's no mean achievement. I think Pickford should be club captain next season and see out his career here. He really seems to have bought into the whole Everton thing.

Never saw West, but those that did would most likely concur with you. My memory is sketchy at the best of times, but I have seen Pickford contribute hugely for 2 seasons in preserving our top status. I cant recall Martyn doing that. Not his fault, the team was most likely better back then, and more than happy to be corrected.

If Seamus retires this summer, then Pickford as club captain would sit fine with me.
