I still think Clemence is a much better goalkeeper than Pickford, I remember him for a lot more than the Dalglish clanger, commanded his goal area much better, one of the reasons Pickford will always lag behind really great keepers, although he can still learn that.

For Liverpool maybe, not for England, which is the point of the comment. Shilton made a couple of bloomers for England as well although he was rated better than Clemence, who still got plenty of caps for England, let’s be honest here Stevie, Clemence had a lot more competition for the England job than Jordan has today, wouldn’t you agree he is the best of a poor bunch?

If we don't get him tied down now then come summer he'll be going into his final 12 months. Probably why United are sniffing about.

I am sick to death will all this media innuendo about our players, Gordon, now Man U would like Pickford, add to that tipping Lampard to take over from Southgate.

Does nothing except unsettle our people, no doubt this is fueled by agents looking for 10%.

He’s the only reason England made the World Cup semi final. Saved the shootout against Columbia and then kept Sweden out almost single-handedly in the quarters.

He would have won the euros as well if anyone could have taken a penalty after those saves in the shootout. Made huge saves against Germany as well.

It’s not even a debate. Pickford has a proven tournament record of playing at the highest level. The other goalkeepers haven’t even prove they can play international football yet.

One of the reasons Southgate has done well is he’s ignored the brain dead English media and made his own decisions. They were calling for Butland to start in 2018 (where’s he now?). They despise players from outside the top 6 playing for England. Southgate’s ignored them to select the likes of Pickford, Trippier, Maguire (when at Leicester), Kalvin Phillips (Leeds), Rice etc. all players who have performed well for England in some of their best tournaments for a long time.


I half hope Southgate starts Alexander Arnold, Henderson and Ramsdale and goes out in the group stage so the media would finally learn to stfu when it comes to questioning England selection,

The save he made in the 90th minute from Uribe never gets a mention. It was top corner before he turned it around the post. Best save in the tournament IMO.

He has made some clangers in the past but as a relatively young keeper those are becoming less and less frequent.

He is coming into his prime and as English keepers go he is head and shoulders above anyone else.

He is underrated by the media because he plays for Everton and his English but he is as good as most keepers. I have seen the best keepers around drop some clangers especially Allison as Leicester.

Underrated even by our own fans but really good keeper none the less you can see how much England miss him

The media are even criticising his celebrations after making a worldie save. Same as scoring from his perspective, and often from ours too. Give it socks Pickers

Hopefully, we are scouting his replacement if he wants to leave. Sell him high and buy a better replacement cheap.

I think it is likely that clubs are looking at him , he is turning into an excellent and reliable keeper who is only approaching his prime.
He has shown at Everton and with England that he can handle pressure and criticism.

We won't want to sell, but there will be interest.

Tone it down Dan,think about Shilton, Clemence before you even get to Banks.

There’s been some very good English keepers who didn’t perform that well at tournaments. Shilton is one of those, horrible errors against Argentina in 86 and Germany in 90 ultimately put us out both tournaments. Seaman in 2002 against Ronaldinho.

Both better keepers than Pickford by almost any metric but in the last two major tournaments Pickford has brought his top game.

Pickford has more competition than recent keepers. Who was Paul Robinson keeping out of the team? Or Joe Hart? Probably only Calamity James and Rob Green. Even Seaman only really had Nigel Martin (brilliant as he was for us).

Pickford has had everyone from Butland, Ben Foster, Fraser Forster, Henderson, Pope, Ramsdale all touted to replace him for the best part of 4 years now. There’s some keepers in there who have been in decent nick for some big clubs at times.
