I think Garner is also a bit mystifying as a transfer too.

I can make a case for Onana. But much less so with those 3.

Garner looks (to me) tailor made to replace Gana over the next season.

With Pickford, the issue is solely his contract and how it will affect his value.

With one year left, in summer were looking at £20-30mil.

Jan possibly £50mil.

You need to be able to improve in 2 positions with that money while also bringing in players (like Onana) whose values can double.

Hes not signed for a reason and im not sure we can wait until the summer when his value drops circa 50%.

I have been critical of him in the passed, but the last two years he has settled down.
He is at a decent age for a keeper and has years left in him, possibly his best.
He would be daft to waste those years with us if something better came up,
We are not competitive and havnt been for years and show no signs of it changing, more than likely a relegation fight this season.
I expect him to go , maybe not Jan but definitely before next season.

….whilst I’d normally advocate selling an asset in Pickford’s situation, survival is paramount and I can’t see the club cashing-in next month.

In an ideal world he'd extend.

But if not and 'survival' isnt looking positive we may need to spend a transfer fee on a top notch attacking player.

Would be a bitter pill to swallow if he went for peanuts in the summer.

….I have no problem selling him for cheaper in summer as long as it secures our status. Saying that, if a couple of teams are keen on him, it could push his price up.

If we sell him next month we’d need to have an adequate replacement lined up at half Pickford’s price.

Or we bring someone in on loan and use the funds on a top notch attacker.

Balancing act.

….’someone on loan’ has to be ‘someone very good on loan’ & I’m not sure there are many very good goalkeepers available on such a deal.

Valencia paid £850k for their keeper on a loan to buy deal a year ago.

Now still only 22 Georgian international and 2metres tall.

Shows you whats out there. Hes also probably the one to sign as they are in debt.

There is plenty of keepers out there that can do a job. Can look at the French, German, Spanish and Italian leagues for good keepers. Pickford has come on the last 2 years but honestly if a few clubs are keen on him and we can get a good price for him we have to consider it. Now for me honestly I would say minimum 60 mil and why, well look at what city and Liverpool paid for there keepers what 3-4 years ago. Chelsea’s paid 100 million in total for their last 2 keepers, and they are crap. England number 1 and will be for next 10 years unless someone eles comes along in next few years. I also think Pickford not even at his best yet at 28 for a keeper is young. We desperately need quality additions in the front 3.

Pickford has a contract until summer 2024.

Thats going to massively lower his value unless theres an offer in Jan.

Would love the big man to stay with us. While Lampard is implementing his vision he's going to still be busy protecting the goal. More than if he moves to a top 4 club.

That being said, he will certainly get more love and acknowledgement from the sleazy media that seems determined to drag his name through the mud despite him being a standout internationally.

Yeah was speaking about January. But doubt anyone will come in. Plus we know that if say spurs or Man U want him they tell his agent not to sign a new contract and will come in for him in the summer and get him on the cheap.
