He's not. He's still quite good. Pickford has been better this season for the first time ever. I'm not prepared to say he's better full stop yet.

The scenario I was hoping for is we stay up, Wolves go down, we sell Pickford in the summer and get Jose Sa on the cheap. Absolute nonsense, obviously, but seemed plausible in my head before yesterday's game.

He's 28. 18months left. Come back from the WC which is well known for tapping up and now it's "not happening".

Depressingly I imagine they probably agreed a wage, let's say £120k a week, with no relegation clause in it and if we did go down it would mean we'd either have to pay him that in the Championship which would be madness or else basically give him away for nothing to get him off the wage bill. Can see these buffoons thinking if they sign him up and go down we'll be in trouble, not accounting for the fact that we shouldn't be going down in the first place and that's the much bigger issue here, not paying Pickford.
