On one hand you'd think there is no chance that Jose Mourinho is going to get a side relegated into the Championship. On that hand there is also the idea that like Ancelotti, he'd be able to bring players into the club that we couldn't recruit otherwise.

The other hand though includes the thought that he hasn't kept up with modern football and the circus that follows him.

It would be much better than the dross we have been served in the past few years but I want us to start being a trendsetter. I'm tired of us being a few years behind everyone else and this feels more in a step of the old habits die hard direction.

If Jose comes in, he makes Everton - with its soon-to-be-iconic new stadium and wealthy ambitious owners - a destination for the pick of the up-and-coming coaching generation.

Right now, we need to change the narrative that "it's between Everton and Ipswich to see who goes down. I really believe that, Jeff."

Mourinho would be boss for us.

I've said before that of the 'elite group' of managers, he is the kind that would front up to the challenge of managing a team with low budget where coaching and man management are the primary tools in the armoury; in fact, I think he'd relish the chance to prove himself under those circumstances. Loves the bit between his teeth. I also think he strangely suits the 'culture' of the club, dogs of war and all that, siege mentality.

However has literally just been sacked by the Friedkins at Roma, so unless they are strictly business over bad blood, I can't see it happening
