In a world or Rickie Lambert's and Matt Le Tissier's to be top of the list is ridiculous.
Actually quite an interesting point, this appears to be the evolution of the hyper celebrity (former) footballer, a trade bombarded with "you're all role models, kids look up to you, are you sure your behaviour is appropriate" - well now the media is being content created by the idiots once placed on a pedestal to be then knocked down. The amplification of stupidity allowed my new/online/social media has encouraged this, and lowest common denominator rules like it does everywhere else. A symptom of a much larger problem. (I'm aware of the irony here where I am espousing the offering of opinion to the world via the internet).

Pretty much.

I'm firmly in the camp of Social Media is the root of all evil.

There is one thing posting on a forum, however you can be whatever you are, you're still behind a username, but handling yourself with decorum.

Joey Barton audience is probably bordering on 2-3m with the uproar he's
causing so commotion when the reality is, he shouldn't even have a platform. Sad times that the modern world feasts on such garbage.

I’ve noticed a trend lately.
Stupid people with nothing good going for them love a hero to look up to. Jordan Peterson, Andrew Tate, Russel Brand, Joey Barton, Elon Musk, Tommy Robinson etc. have all amassed a following of the exact same thick as muck ‘school of hard knocks’ degenerates whose ears prick up as soon as one of these bigot whistles play their tune. It’s no surprise to see Joey’s follow count has increased with the more deplorable things he says.

The world is very simple in their tiny minds. They love the idea that complicated issues in society can be sorted out over a pint and written on the back of a cigarette packet.

“Simple as, nuff said”.

They always look to the loud knob heads because it’s all they can identify with to justify their discriminatory views and their school bully like approach. It's no coincidence that people who have seen a bit of the world beyond the town they grew up in, and maybe actually tried to learn a bit are far less likely to look up to these ‘heroes’, and have the ability to critically think and not just follow their childish emotional mind to the ones that shout the loudest.

I’ll never forget the 40 odd year old builder who I worked with last year. He loved every single one of these grifters, yet wouldn’t wear a seatbelt, denied climate change was a thing and became quite aggressive when questioned, thought Boris was a good Prime Minister, and was an advocate for private health care. His favourite topic of conversation was school and the fights he used to have lol

It blew my mind that these people actually exist and aren’t just a caricature, and they can vote ffs.

That turned in to a bit of a rant, but it felt quite good so I just kept going. Cheers, everyone.

I find the shy support funniest, folk who know they can't outwardly support him but some of the dog whistles appeal to their narrow minds.

You mean the 'he has got a bit of a point' or 'there is a conversation to be had' type 🔔ends? They are quite amusing in their initial responses, only to finish with 'I don't agree with everything he says like.'

Reading this is really unpleasant.

"I'm human, and I'm more than happy to admit I've been scared this week" she said.

"I've genuinely been scared. I didn't leave my house until Friday, and I'm now abroad, because it's really important to say that online abuse has a direct impact on your safety and how you feel, and how safe you feel in real life.

"I felt like something was going to happen to me. And I don't say that for anyone to feel sorry for me, I say that for people to understand the reality and the impact that hate speech has; the impact that racism has; the impact that sexism and misogyny has on all of us females in the game."
