Transfer Rumour Joshua Zirkzee

He probably speaks decent English as a Dutchman to be fair but that’s just an assumption. They’re similar languages grammatically. He’s come off the bench for Bayern a fair few times and has bagged some goals. We were looking at him a few years ago so he’s always been someone of interest for us which is reassuring. Physically, he looks suited to what we need (6’4 and energetic). It will be difficult to get the more ‘finished article’ in on loan and be happy to play from the bench and cups. We need bodies and competition, we’ve wanted him for a while evidently and for that reason I’m on board for the signing in both the short and long term.
*edit, I’m not getting too carried away thinking he’ll get us CL but he’s a body and he fits into the transfer ‘strategy’. Hope we get him
Moise Kean cost 30m and couldn’t get in last years team.

Why would a £10m youngster be any different.

And why are Bayern letting him go?

Kean admittedly wasn’t good when he first arrived, didn’t work hard enough but had glimpses. Looks clear that a slightly slower game suits him, or at least one that doesn’t demand aggressively defending from the front. He did improve slightly but it seemed like a case of talented player, wrong fit. He’s flourishing at PSG where again, he isn’t needing to press and defend. In our system, you need your striker to hold the ball up and be the first line of defence.
Zirkzee’s stature and the style that Bayern play suggest more of a fit than Kean on paper (though that doesn’t always translate I admit!)
I don’t think price has anything to do with it, the players have no control over their transfer sum
As for why Bayern are letting him go? I can’t answer that. Could be one of many reason

Zirkzee isn't going to light it up for a few years but he can certainly develop and play cup matches for the moment. He's not the answer to our concerns for the season but he is worth a punt long term. The thing is he will be happier on the bench and playing the occasional game while he is developing than Moise Kean.

I would much rather develop a player with a high ceiling than continue playing an aging Tosun who will never make it in this league.

Certainly possible, but a young lad in a new club / language / country / league, expected to lift us into CL.

He won’t get played. He’s one for the future.
He will get played if he's cover for DCL, who will hardly go through the entire season as our only option in that role.

That said, I too would like to see us really seize the moment and get in somebody who we could demand an impact from. It's not really fair on a teenager or young lad to put too much expectation on them right from the start.

I’m not sure we have the ability to develop young players anymore. We were forced to with DCL and Davies, but our circumstances have changed. If we want a CL place, there is no room for sentiment. Youngsters won’t get played.

As for cup games, the youngsters got two or three games this season. If he comes on that basis, he won’t play this season. There are only a handful of potential FA cup games left this and we are taking it seriously.

I just can’t see the point right now, of investing in a resource that won’t improve the first eleven This season.

Feels like one for the U23’s.

German teams don’t let good youngsters go for knockdown prices.

10m is good money and the reality is, if he doesn't play for them, then his value will decline sharply. They are the best team in Europe, with probably the best 9 in Europe. I wouldn't read too much into generalising from the player at this point.

For £10m he wouldn't have to play every game. He would need to be an option off the bench and a better option than Tosun if DCL is injured or suspended. We need second string players that are better than we currently have and I'd much rather they be youngsters with the potential to be first team players in the future than balding old dossers. What's the downside to a transfer like this?

Probably because there's no pathway to develop him until Lewa stumbles, and he's become fractious as a result.

We have a guy known as the "Diva Whisperer" and an infamous discipline problem on our bench. It's the natural place to send a player with that concern to iron it out.

We offer the promise of Europe and the best coaching; Parma offers immediate playing time but the threat of Serie B looms.

We won't know how Bayern really feels about him until we see whether or not they insist on a buyback, and at what price if they do. If it looks like Deulofeu's clause, you know he's in their long-term plans. My guess is that this is where they want him, and that Parma was introduced to the game to strongarm us into accepting the clause because they are in no position to refuse.

This

A January signing has to make a difference this season. I think C s you g inexperienced lad coming from another country with no experience of the league is unlikely to have the immediate impact we want.

A january signing doesnt need to have an 'instant' impact.

Branthwaite was lucky to get games last season due to injuries.

We could sign a player and let them settle first and then go into preseason ready for next season.

Theyre here for the length of their contracts, not 6 or 12months.

Kean cost £22mil with £5mil more in clauses.

Really not sure why people inflate the fees so much...

Remember, Kean was signed as a 19 year old...5 years.

1 year at the club
1 year on loan at PSG

He could have massively improved by the summer and return. He still has 3 years on his deal.

That may be true, but I still think he would be ahead of Zirkzee. Look at how we don’t use youngsters.
Ancelotti's not going to come out and do anything other than praise Tosun but

Because his game is better suited to the Prem?

You'd have to check with Ancelotti for the answer to that. It might also depend on how the fixture pile up plays out. Certainly is a lot of comment on a player we've been linked with by one journo.
