Just how do we compete on field and become challengers once again?

It starts at the top (John Moores) time will tell it that applies to our new guy at the top. Moores appointed a good Manager, who adapted the players he was given, got rid of some he was given, bought some...and did it twice.

So the answer to that seems to be; Over to you Moshman.

I.M.W.T. - for now.

How close has Sevilla gone to winning the league, or being contenders to do so consistently? I am not talking about being a cup team.
I want to be consistently in a position to win the League.

That we should compare to Athletico. They have some money to spend but the key to their success, Simeone. They are also working on off the pitch work to generate more revenue and grow the club.

So...Get the right man for the long term project and grow with him.

For all that Sevilla is, they are, as you say, a cup team, not a contender. They don't seem to have grown much in reputation despite their net income from player sales. I would think their marketing department sucks worse than us...

And there my friend is the crux of this thread...

Happy to help meat.

It took Chelsea and City time and they didnt have as many FFP rules and hoops to jump through.

We appoint a boss manager who buys boss players, we build a boss stadium, play boss footy in it and just boss the whole of Europe.

WHATS OUR NAME?????

HEY?????

EVERTON

RAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWR

:oops::oops::oops:

I don't think it was.

There will be more Leicester Citys.

We have entered a new paradigm in English soccer, my friend :)
I guess I will need a little more convincing if any of these names are true...

"Jose Mourinho has already got an incredible shortlist of Manchester United transfer targets, reports say.

The Portuguese boss is set to replace Louis van Gaal this week and he will be handed £200million to splash in the summer.

Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, Everton’s John Stones, Paris Saint-Germain’s Marquinhos and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are his top targets.

United are also confident that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will link up with Mourinho again at Old Trafford."

Jose sucked this season, who's to say he will be an instant hit there?

This will be a journey.
If we can move up the table every season by a few places, I'll be happy.
The hardest is the first step, all that doubt and anxiety, you know?

1. Change in direction / members at the ownership and board level
2. Long term planning on the stadium / business side
3. Good manager hire ..... Develop our youth / retain our top players / smart purchases and sales
4. A plan to develop the Everton brand worldwide
5. A patient and supportive fan base

While #5 might be tough ..... I am more optimistic about our clubs fortunes than I have been since the late 80's
Time will tell .... but it won't be overnight !
COYB .... I hope we get it right !

There's the point of this thread mate.
If we don't do this, how do we compete?

I agree...... but we may not retain Lukaku or Stones .... ( I hope we do .....think they could play a big part .... ) We need to sort out the Boardroom / management staff first ..... player loyalty / development will follow if we are well run !

IF we are going to lose Lukaku / Stones .... ( and we might ) we need to get a decent wedge and the new manager will need to buy prudently .... Let's be honest , we are all in it for the long haul ( were Evertonians ) .... It may take 5-10 years but for the first time in a long time , I feel like we may be on the path to pushing on to where we belong !

That is exactly my point.

With the right man in charge and a bit of judicious spending, it can be done without spending mega millions.

Unfortunately, our biggest draw is our touted $100m warchest. Or that's what the media wants everyone to think. Let's hope Moshiri pulls a rabbit out of the hat and stun the whole world by getting us into UCL next year
LOL
