I cannot wait for the day when we see a player we want and just go and get him. It seems to me that at the moment we are still very much an afterthought for these 'top' players and are just makeweights to up the ante. Even if we match fees and wages it's all smacks of 'thanks, but no thanks'. This will all change if we become successful both on and off the pitch but at the moment it does irk with me and, I am sure, many others.

Yes it does a bit. But I think once we make one big signing the others will get easier and easier, hopefully anyway.

In all fairness we finished 11th and haven't done much of note in the last few years, which means we often won't be seen as a top choice for the level of player we want to bring in. Especially if a team like Chelsea are definitely interested, which they seem to be in this case. Hopefully as we progress and Moshiri enacts his vision for the club that will change, as you say. In the meantime let's stay positive and enjoy the ride

Well, that rules out 98% of footballers in the world today, so...

Couldn't agree more, the days of good players playing for the shirt has gone. The best you can hope for now is that they remain professional and give of their best for the wages they are paid. Looking for a non mercenary footballer is like looking for an honest politician, they are extinct.

We have to be level headed and accept where we are as a club. Or at least, where we have been as a club for the past 20-30 years. 1 trophy since we last won the league in the late 80's and have just finished 11th twice in a row. Chelsea by comparison are the countries most successful team in terms of trophies won since the very late 90's, even surpassing Man United.

We just have to be realistic and patient over the next year or two and hopefully it will change when we start to prove ourselves on the pitch. If you think about the City takeover and even Chelsea's, they weren't signing the very best at the start were they. I remember Chelsea signed players like Mutu and City bought Elano and Benjani. It was once they'd changed the perception of the club that they were then able to start attracting the likes of Tevez.

I'm sure it will be similar for us, although we may never sign someone like Aguero. We already have some great younger players in Lukaku, Deulofeu and Barkley who could go on to be top class though.

if it is a straight dance off with cheque books between Mosh and Roman then I suppose we will dip out.
