Why would arsenal go in for him if they just got 24 million? surely they could go and spend 20 million on a striker now? lewandowski? benzema? liorente?

Exactly.

RVP for this lad is hardly a like for like replacement.

Arsenal needed a top class striker BEFORE RVP told of his desire to move on, they've since signed 2 strikers so they need one more, of a player similar to his quality.

An unproven Belgian in the Greek league is hardly going to fill the gap.

That's absolutely true, but you hire these people for a reason, and part of that is your trust them to give you good advice. They don't always give good advice from a career perspective (players make bad moves all the time for money or fame or whatever), but as the client (especially if you are not really savvy), you take their advice to heart.

If Arsenal wanted him that badly they would have had him signed up like Podolski, Giroud and the Spanish lad

No idea, but just like we can offer more than the Greek side, Arsenal can offer more than us. The question is do they want to? I'm hopeful they have other fish to fry. I think (my opinion only) is they do (as others have mentioned above). I'm not sure they see this kid as the answer to their problem of how to leapfrog the other 3. That's why I'm hopeful.
