If he's not allowed to do his job properly but happy to take the money, then he's a big part of the problem

Brands cryarsing was exactly the same. His recruitment was massively flawed and the minute someone went over his head, if he had resigned he would have received more respect

The DoF role will NEVER work at Everton due to the dossers who are currently running the club into the ground.

This fella has about 5 days to save what little rep he has with the fanbase, then I expect everyone will turn on him once it's proven beyond doubt that he's just another pencil pushing yes man.

….it’s all conjecture with Brands but I see it totally different.

He came into a situation where the DoF wasn’t totally responsible for transfers (Walsh said at Everton, individuals identify & bring in their own targets). What Brands did was bring some cohesion to the job. He worked with and not against Mangers (unlike Walsh did with Koeman). His influence on transfers was with varying degrees.

I think he was very much on the same page as Silva. He facilitated the demands of Ancelotti & recommended the odd player Ancelotti endorsed (Doucoure?). Brands was liked and respected by two factions on the Board (he was given a seat), he was liked and respected by the players. He was liked and respected by Managers until Benitez refused to talk to him.

We can guess & criticise the players he brought in (Klaassen, Doucoure) but beyond that I suspect he had the diplomacy of a diplomat. He suppressed his ego to keep harmony at the top of the shop. Benitez destroyed that harmony. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the Mad House has fallen apart since Brands left.

Just my take, of course, but I think Benitez arriving & Brands leaving took the handbrake off our club on the top of Everton Brow.

As for Thelwell, he’s probably & finally been given the job scope we recognise in a DoF but the signs are he’s useless.

Wonder if he's even done a full day's work during his time with us. Highly doubtful tbh. No doubt they'll reward him relegating us with a place on the Board of Directors.

Kia said clear the back house so the front house can function properly. What is that suppose to mean? Power struggle within board level? Or some serious disagreement within cliques arising from personal interest and not focusing on the well being of the club as a whole? And clearly thelwell is not appointed by Moshiri.

There is a couple of caveats here though, if there is zero money to spend then it makes his job nearly impossible. We haven't a clue what he is working with budget wise, easy to say go out and get x amount of players but would that be league 2 players? His job has been made harder by Lampard going so presumably while he should be fully focused on playing staff, he is also part of finding a manager. Any incoming players are going to be dubious to who the manager will be and therefore are they wanted, so that mix is definitely not what you would want and least ideal to produce best outcome results.

He does however need to negotiate a good (perhaps not great due to timing) deal with Newcastle for Gordon and have some ducks in a row ready to go.

Not one of them running the club or working at the club in a top level position deserve to be cut even 1cm of slack.

From day one when he came in, he would be aware of what he was working with but instead he spent months working on some fantasy 120 point plan whilst forgetting about the most important plan of all which is Premier League survival.

26th Jan, nothing in, no manager, board unrest with a DoF unable to relay to fans whags going on because he doesn't have a clue himself.

No one gets the benefit of doubt any more. Enough is enough.

All good points Eggs but we shouldn't be paying people millions a year to keep the peace.

He failed, massively.

Though I do agree on once Benitez was hired that was always going to spiral things out of control even quicker. Kenwright, Baxendale and Brands all had a chance to step up and say "no, enough is enough" and resign in protest to that appointment but nope, they were all on the money train so happy to just play along with another delusional idea by Moshiri.

Surely the job of a DoF is to implement a style of play that runs from the first team right down to the academy. Players and managers that fit this style are then recruited so that change is seamless.

3 DoF’s in and we have no identifiable style of play at any level whatsoever.

….I think folk mislead the role of a normal DoF with the DoF at Everton. The scope of the Everton DoF is not as we define the post elsewhere.

Continuity of playing style is assured by the DoF but the fact we’re trying to lure Bielsa who plays a totally different way to how we’ve played recently confirms the club has no playing strategy. Indeed, the club has no strategy.

4 good signings + 4 bad signings

He did manage to move out Gomes and Gbamin last summer.

Zero impact this window...so far.
When you don’t have much money and need 7/8 players, I’m not sure what people are expecting. He will always need to get the odd loan, the odd free and the occasional 32yr old on a cheap deal, until finances change that will always be the way.

At least most of the money spent is on younger players
