Surely the job of a DoF is to implement a style of play that runs from the first team right down to the academy. Players and managers that fit this style are then recruited so that change is seamless.

3 DoF’s in and we have no identifiable style of play at any level whatsoever.
Ultimately though the DoF is given direction by the board and owner. It is those who should tell said DoF what they want and the DoF should then be given full power to implement said strategy.

I'm far from convinced on Thelwell, but again, it looks like he's not having a big say in who the manager is. Which again just shows the club don't know what they're doing.

And in his defence when it comes to signing players, not sure how anybody is supposed to be able to persuade a player to join a team when the two managerial candidates are Marcelo Bielsa or Sean Dyche.

Could not be more opposite.

That's fair this week. But we had 3 weeks of inactivity that probably is part of the reason the manager was sacked.

The 6 weeks during the WC break were clearly not used correctly because other clubs had their business lined up.

When you don’t have much money and need 7/8 players, I’m not sure what people are expecting. He will always need to get the odd loan, the odd free and the occasional 32yr old on a cheap deal, until finances change that will always be the way.

At least most of the money spent is on younger players

….I expect him to get players in at the beginning of the window when most needed. I don’t expect a PL club to go into a season without a recognised striker, then as the summer window closes spend our funds on Maupay.

The same is happening this window. Surely he should have at least advised keeping Lampard until we secured new signings.

Are you trying to suggest that going to Australia and not coming up with plans on how to fix the obvious problems was a massive waste of time?

Think it was obvious maupay was a last day, last resort buy. Is that his fault or the boards as we wanted kudus, was close to being done, Broja was a target as was the striker from France, an 11mil deal done apparently. And then they all fall through and we end up with maupay. Like I say you have little money then you have little room for manoeuvre.

Again is this on Thelwell why we haven’t got anyone yet?

We spent far too long chasing him though which I'm guessing was down to Frank, but we wasted a couple of weeks on it.

….of course it’s on Thelwell. Moshiri finally saying the DOF now has responsibility for transfers. From what I recall, the Kudus deal was a loan.

Outside of a window, he has time to get things aligned, line-up his shopping list and put feelers out. We went well into a season without a striker, Lampard played Gordon up top. For me, that alone is gross negligence.

We had monies to spend, he chose to spend it on McNeil and Maupay.

He’s had months to prepare for this window, we are in a desperate league position & we have less than a week to acquire anybody. The one loan signing he made was botched on paperwork.

Amazes me how anybody can defend him. He has to be accountable, he has to be culpable.

Approaching Josh King, Dele Alli, Donny VdB desperation territory now.

Kevin has fluffed his lines.
Is it really him though, as Farhad himself said in that video it's Kenwright who has the final say on transfers (no idea why myself, I was totally unaware BK had this expert knowledge of the transfer market)
