Load of bollocks this DOF malarkey, doesn’t work for us so let’s abolish it and go back to what the manager wants and needs with a good scouting team working alongside him.
If the DoF model doesn’t work for us then neither will the managers buying the players work either because both processes suffer with some of our board members being too cosy with agents or influencers and they interfere too much.

Let’s face it, the club cant buy players either because 1) We are skint 2) P&S restrictions or 3) both. We have been connected with MSP now for a few months and the six week period of exclusivity only just happens to occur during the transfer window being open? It’s amazing how much does happen whilst the transfer window is open….the last two January windows we have sacked our managers. Just excuse after excuse.

Anyone else feel that the more stick Thelwell gets the more they look back on his signings and have a double take?

Only Maupay and a Vinagre loan have been actual failures.

Signings under him have been much improved than under previous regimes but not managing to get in a striker in either window apart from wasting limited funds on panic buying Maupay was a shocker and nearly got us relegated

He’s got a tough job to do and Tarkowski, Onana, McNeill and Garner were very credible signings but failing to bring in even a loan striker was bordering on gross negligence

The DoF model doesn’t work at all imo
It hasn’t worked at Everton, certainly.

But the problem isn’t with the concept, it’s with the execution.

Either we’ve recruited the wrong DoFs, or they’ve been inhibited from doing their jobs – or both.

Putting the manager in charge of all transfers only works if they are capable of it, and only if they are given the chance to build and manage their team over more seasons than most are given in the modern game.

I’d argue that managers no longer have the time or space to build a squad to play their way. Instead, it’s incumbent on clubs to separately curate their squads and find managers to fit the club’s identified playing style.

For that, the DoF system needs to be made to work - and that’s exactly what we’ve failed to do.
