He had a nightmare task in the summer to try bring in abar 10 signings whilst hamstrung by FFP mate.

Effective Signings on those they replaced in the team:
Coady
Tarkowski
Gana

Up and down signings so far:
Onana (although for me he's been played in the wrong position by the manager and needs to drop deeper)
Maupay

Dissapointing signings so far:
McNeil

Not enough minutes to judge signings so far:
Garner
Vinagre

Overall he's done more good than bad in his first window.

Lets not forget he nearly had Kudus tied up as well who looks a superstar.

Way too early to write him off. Can only judge once he has a window with little to no financial restrictions.
Weird how all the players we've "almost signed" or "nearly had" or "could have got" have been top quality, but the one's we actually get are mostly varying levels of crap.

Guess it must be like when Wenger almost signed Ronaldo, Zlatan and Yaya Toure only to end up with Andre Santos, Yoyo Sanogo and that Kim Kalstrom fella who arrived injured, never played and somehow left more injured.

So its Thelwells fault Ajax wouldn't finalise the loan move to us ?

Lol at Gana being effective and lol at Maupay being up and down. When's he been up? That one goal v West Ham?

Like Onana Maupay has been misused by the manager.

He scored just 2 less goals than Richarlison last season yet why is the managers tactics lumping balls at him when he's 5 ft8 ?

This is the same manager who moved Kante further up the pitch...

No, but if Kudus was our primary striker target then maybe he should have made his move prior to the last week of the window. Maybe a more astute, assertive DOF doesn't hang all his hopes on maybe getting a loan in if it's not too inconvinient for the parent club after they've lost a few players themselves.

I probably shouldn't be too harsh. I can only imagine the weeks of round the clock work that went into making sure Bayern or Barca didn't gazump us on the vital Gana deal.

If Gana is 'effective' at 33 years old losing the ball every 15 seconds and being a mile off the pace, I can only imagine what words ForeverBonkers would describe him as if he was even close to the player we had years ago. "OOT-standing" probably. ?‍♂️

Why was he bought as a back up to DCL? They were never going to play alongside each other so it must've always been in mind Maupay was going to be a lone striker.

The manager clearly thought DCL could stay fit and have Maupay as someone to come off the bench for the last 10-15 mins and be a nuisance with his pressing.

Also worth remembering Thelwell loves 352 so maybe signed him with that formation in mind until Lampard switched from 3 at the back to the 433.

God knows but one things for certain at £15 millions he isn't a "bad signing" in the right set up. Currently we're failing to get the best outta him imo.

I mean you could say exactly the same about Frank Lampard, but you won't.

Why would I he's the manager he can still coach the team to a higher standard than what we're seeing.

Moyes worked under unbelievable amounts of restrictions on spend/wages yet led us to a 4th placed finish and nunerous top 6 finishes, a cup final etc.

Brentford spend very little and are in the top 10 with a weaker side than us, as are Brighton etc.

As a club we make too many excuses for poor management and think we can only expect higher than 16th with a £100 million budget because as a club we've lost our way.
