Both nuts takes lol

I can agree that McNeil & Maupay have largely flattered to deceive given the circumstances, but to write off young Onana and suggest that Tarkowski & Coady weren't extremely good signings is just flat out disingenuous. I also still think bringing Gana back was a good move despite him being poor this month.

Coady and Tarkowski cost us barely anything, we would’ve signed them without the Richarlison money. Tim is right, half of the Richarlison money was invested in Dwight McNeil and Maupay and the other half went on non-creative midfielders. It’s just not good enough and Thelwell’s head should roll for it.

It was 30m five minutes ago.
Wasn’t it 15m for Maupay and 20m for McNeil. I could be wrong. Still we spent 30-35 million on two squad players. When we already have players who should be squad players starting every week like Gray. One quality attacking player would have been the better option.

Is c.£25m for two players with multiple Prem seasons under their belts an awful lot of money though? really? even if they've started off poorly there's still 3 goals between them, Maupay's earned us all 3 points against West Ham..

I actually feel a bit sorry for Maupay truth be told. He's not the first forward at Everton who'll be cut adrift due to who he's playing with and I'm pretty sure he won't be the last either..

Standard GOT really. Numbers go up repeatedly as posters try to prove an ever failing point.

Like when James was being paid 500k an hour.
To be fair we never know exactly how much players have cost and different figures get mentioned in different places so it's not necessarily a deliberate thing.

In this instance the BBC (the most widely read news website in the country) reported the fee for Mcneil as £20m and Maupay as £15m, so it seems pretty fair to use that figure.

I explained all this above. In my opinion, the only two signings that were good signings were the centre halves, and we are clearly stronger in that position.

But those two signings were a free agent and a loan deal. The area we improved is the area we spent the least on, so I stand by the point that the Richarlison money was totally wasted. I don't rate any of the 3 midfielders signed (Onana could obviously keep improving, but needs time we can't afford in our position. And I don't rate McNeil or Maupay.

Overall, the squad is weaker as we can't even create chances nevermind score. And the fact we are 17th after coming 16th, and average 0.7 goals per game, is surely all the evidence we need to show it.

Why can't he be credited for bringing Coady & Tarkowski in because they 'cost next to nothing'?? and don't say 'because they didn't need the Richarlison money to be reinvested' because, quite frankly, it's a poor argument..

A DOF's job isn't just to 'reinvest transfer funds' is it? we don't even truly know where the Richarlison money was even distributed and how much we even got of it up front so it's a bit of a null argument all said and done!

Season hasn't finished, for a start ?‍♂️

Rebuilding this Everton squad is a long process. I can't be killed for suggesting that Thelwell has made some improvements to it already surely??
Is anybody talking about killing you?! You made a statement that a couple have disagreed with. You then called the people disagreeing with you 'nuts'. I'm not sure how you've managed to end up believing you're a victim here, are you sure you're on the right forum?

I have credited the club for that.

My point is that something is badly wrong if we improved only in the area we spent none of the money. We managed to preserve the money for other areas, but then wasted it. It's extremely frustrating because anyone who watches us knew we couldn't compete without a top quality replacement for Richarlison and our other injury prone centre forward.

Clearly improved the defence
Clearly improve the midfield
Done a crap job with the attack and if you don’t score goals you don’t win matches

I gave the window a 7/10 or something probably because I was hoping Gordon stepped up and McNeil was only poor for goals/assists because of the Burnley system. Clearly I was wrong and McNeil was a waste of money so far. I say so far because he’s young and could improve but we can’t afford to spend money on players who might come good in the attack - we need results now. Onana was worth the risk and has been a success overall imo and is clearly already better than Doucoure/Davies but we need goals now!

Yeah, because they’re rubbish? Doesn’t matter how many seasons they’ve played in the Premier League, they’re not good enough. You are not telling me we couldn’t have bought one player for that same amount of money who would contribute more than both of them combined, I won’t listen to it. We need to stop using “played in the Premier League” as criteria for signing a player. It means literally nothing, it has no value whatsoever.

Yet to see evidence of this, midfield is a shambles. Gueye shouldn’t have been bought.

Only one person at the club is responsible for this imo and it applies to how we look for managers also. Sadly I don't see it changing anytime soon.

You keep saying this but there is absolutely no evidence of it whatsoever. The midfield creates nothing, can't keep hold of the ball, and allows the opposition to have about 25 shots a game, where is the clear improvement?

Serious oversights were made by both Thelwell and Lampard in the summer with respect to Anthony Gordon, who I firmly believe they hoped would be an in-house replacement for Richarlison (not to mention the fact that he should have been sold), and with Calvert-Lewin we should not have relied on as heavily as we have done to stay fit.

I maintain that he absolutely should get the January transfer window to fix his oversights, Marcel Brands was allowed to annihilate this club over 3 years and seven transfer windows so it would be ridiculous if Thelwell wasn't even allowed two. He needs to have a creative attacker and a striker lined up for early January. If he provides those tools, then for me Lampard can't have too many complaints. There are more than enough games of the season left for us to get out of this comfortably if the right moves are made.

I do have major reservations with how Lampard is using certain players at present, not least Gana who is a quality player but looks like a fish up a tree at the moment. Compared to this point last year, we have virtually an entire new team - he's going to have to start getting some change out of these players sooner or later.
