But honestly, you cant consider Young as anything more than a success im afraid.

4th best Defence in the league, in which he was pretty much a mainstay.

I dont like it either, but facts really dont care about our feelings.
We're talking football tho Goat, so facts and statistics and reality and all that doesnt matter. Hes old, slow, a massively regressive signing and i dont like him.

Terrible signing.

This is possibly what sticks in people's throats. Looking at the job he was brought in to do, he's been a success overall. Yes it would be ace to be signing the best young full backs in the division below, but we don't have that kind of money.
In many ways the attitude to Young mirrors that which people had towards the manager, in that many didn't want him either.

He is not very good is he at his role.

Bought Beto, we have Maupay coming back, re signing Ashley Young & Coleman who are both finished, we are going to try and get Harrison back for next season, has already said there will be some major sales, probably Branthwaite & Pickford.

I really don't trust this clown with money, also Dyche has a say in all of this as well, worrying times
Have we ever had a good DoF? If the answer is no, then it’s because of the well publicised deep rooted dysfunctional problems at Board and ownership level. It’s difficult to do your job when you have next to no funds in a sport that’s awash with money and pretty much you can’t make mistakes. I’m not a Thelwell promoter or detractor, I just can’t see how you disassociate performance from our DoFs when you had a collective [Poor language removed] team in Moshiri and his puppet board.

McNeil, Onana, Garner, Gana, Tarks, Young.

I didn’t realise he signed Tarks and McNeil.

Agree on those 2, and Gana but Onana and Garner I think the jury is still out and Young has been a liability the majority of the time he plays.

He signed 50mil pounds worth of strikers last year and neither of those get a game in a team that scored one of the least amount of goals in the league.

Lets hope he has a good summer.

Onana will be sold for a massive profit and Jimmy Garner was a cheap signing, you cant say we havent already got our moneys worth.

Hes looked tired recently and hes no KDB, but hes been well worth the 10-15m fee, IMO.

The Strikers are a big black mark, but I never said he was perfect.

People band numbers about but I’d be amazed if we’ve paid any sort of add ons for some of these fees recently. Ultimately if there’s ever a situation we end up paying the full fees for Chermiti and Beto they’re probably paying well enough to have improved their value.

Net spend going down, league performance going up. They’re the only two statistics Thelwell will care about, not which players GOT thinks are a ‘disgrace’ of an individual signing.

He signed 2 strikers who were available for no upfront payment. I'm sure if you'd given him £50 million to spend upfront he would have chosen different players.

It is strange isn’t…we all spend in accordance with our means in our everyday lives but our DoF daren’t do this and clearly when he is shopping in ‘bargain basement’ stores or purchasing ‘yellow ticket’ items, they have to be of the highest quality. I’m sure he and previous DoFs have made mistakes, but everyone does and latitude has to be given to that and our well documented troubles

To be honest mate, I am just fed up with the whole thing year after year.

I am hoping we get taken over by someone who has some cash and know how on how to run a football club, we're we can see shoots of recovery and we can start to compete again, we all start to enjoy going the match again and anticipate us winning each game we go to, this would happen in an ideal world, but I know with Everton nothing is ideal and straightforward.

Absolutely - we need cash behind us obviously but it doesn’t have to be uber rich cash as we can’t spend it anyway due to restrictions, but we need enough funding for working capital to run the club and to allow easier negotiations with things like transfers / installments but more importantly as you say, just someone who runs a functioning football club and has commercially savvy

let’s see who wins the battle for players

He wants players that be developed and sold on for a profit

Dyche wants more battle ready player, more so next year with the outgoings

With the 3 players staying another season, there is scope for Dyche to get what he wants (them) and Thelwell to make 3 more Chermiti type signings to develop behind them.

Doesnt have to cost a fortune, Chermit> £10-12.5mil while Nkounkou for example only cost pennies yet we could have sold him for €7.5mil if we didnt give the buy option to the french club.

Good points this mate... definitely going to be interesting to see what profile of player we bring in. I actually think it might be a case of needs must next season, and we go for what Dyche thinks he needs.

That wouldnt make sense...theres far too many players with only 1 year on their deals so if were solely plugging gaps we will be screwed next year.

Tarkowski, McNeil, Garner, Chermiti all seem like good buys to me.

Onana whether loved or hated everyone can se we signed him for £33mil and is now being touted around by the media at £50/60mil.

The poor signings e.g Beto and Maupay were made under financial restrictions. Same with Young, Harrison and Danjuma short term moves.
