Dead edgy to criticise Mykolenko on here and I’ve got no idea why. It’s seemingly not enough to just be a solid defender now. Funny how Pep went to pretty much playing 4 CBs at the back this season because he wanted solidity, won a treble with it, but clearly the hipsters on here know more than him and want some flying attacker who’ll whip crosses in and take set pieces even if he can’t defend anything (aka Lucas Digne)

Like all our players he has good and bad games but I must have imagined the period of at the end of Lampard’s first season when he was shutting down top wingers and all the fans were singing he’s magic.
I am not saying don't criticise players but please give them a break it is a new season and they haven't kicked a ball especially Myko who is injured .

I’d rather we just bought better attacking players than spend money on an attacking left back that can also defend. Unless they’re an absolute worldie (which we can’t afford) we’ll lose far more on their defensive errors than what they produce the other way (as we did with Digne)

Carlo realised this when he benched Digne for Godfrey and played 4 CBs and we started winning because they did the basics of stopping crosses and winning headers on the back post.

The amount of times Digne got stranded up the pitch and Keane and Mina/Holgate would get dragged out of position leading to us conceding was ridiculous.
Can you imagine on Saturday if the lad players and whoever is playing on the left is look for a pass/movement around him and the lads sitting on the halfway line he'll get hammered, were lacking the little creativity we have with McNeil and Gray out tomorrow both full backs need to be involved and thats why Dyche and the rest of them should be working on a system that doesnt leave us exposed , I dont think he will start anyway I think Young will start

….started last season with Gordon playing Centre Forward. Finished last season with Gray playing CF despite Thelwell bringing in Maupay a month after the season started. He gambled on DCL being fit when even folk on here knew he’d have an interrupted career. We avoided relegation by the skin of our teeth.

The chances are we start this season without a robust and effective central striker. Chermiti might be the answer but the indication is ‘he’s one for the future’.Time will tell.

His failure to bring in an effective striking option negates anything else. Thelwell nearly cost us our top flight existence, there is no excuse, we should never forget that.
I'm not sure we can say with certainty that he gambled on DCL being fit.
I doubt Thelwell dictates the size of the budget or the amount of players he can bring in.
I'm sure he would have preferred more cover for DCL.
Sure Maupay was a swing and a miss but he did look ok on paper, particularly in the championship and not too many on here objected when he was signed.
As for the January window, again, not sure how much of that was tightening purse strings, interference from the owner etc.
I think only Walsh had a fairly clear run at the DOF job and he made a mess of it.
The last two have had owners, managers, agents trampling all over their turf.

Thelwell has had some good signings and some bad.
Overall far more good than bad for me.
I doubt he'd anything to do with Dele.

I accept your views but the problem remains that we have a lot to get rid of -on too much money .Then we want players that every other club wants but fans on here think we should get them all when most won't touch us with a barge pole .The there is the money side of it ,it is easy to see we are on a tight budget which limits us even more .Personally for me it is a clean sheet for all the players starting tomorrow ,yes there are some I would personally pay for their taxis but they remain Everton players and should be given a fresh start .
Let us take Chermiti for example he could be just what Maupay needs and the whole scenario will change ,who knows ?

I've had a season ticket for 20 years pal. Just because you don't agree with my opinion you shouldn't be getting your knickers in a twist.
I live abroad now but went home and away for many more years than that ,my first game was in 1950 and I am not getting them in a twist ,I am just doing what you are and giving my opinion.
Sadly you have missed the good times I have seen and for that I am sorry but I will say that getting on their backs is not the answer and carping none stop isn't either .

In my mind a Dyche team will be backs to the wall and counter attacking at speed and very directly.

Not sure we need Roberto Carlos and Cafu coming into the team either. Like you say, add young quality advanced players and we may see that were a threat.

No Gnonto or Etikike yet but people acting like he's already done the deals.

He's signed a 38 year old, a loan, and a young lad not expected to do much this year.

I very much remain to be convinced.

I expected better before we kick off the season.
If he had the money there were some top names heavily linked last summer (and good signings).

Hes got Chermiti and clearly hes tried for El Bilal and has been trying for Gnonto.

Lets see how it turns out.

It's wait and see as ever. Must say, I'm encouraged more by what we might see at the end of this window. Could well be worth the wait.
