Previously the scouting was based entirely on vibes.

Considering Thelwell seemingly got the job because DBB loved the fact his family were Blues and his first football game was at Goodison, even though he's a snide weasel himself, it wouldn't surprise me.

PL experience and "character", what ever that means, have been the top priority for our signings in recent years.

Unless they've come from Kia, then just a body with feet seemingly works for him.

He's not - he's "experienced", and Dyche values that over literally anything else.

He's been a shadow of an average footballer for 2 years and we're actually paying him money AND starting him in games lol

Which is why Branthwaite Garner Onana and McNeil are in the team whilst Keane Allan Gomes Delph Gray Townsend (all the more experienced options) have either been sold, not offered new contracts, or benched.

Are there actually any new players/assets on Everton's books who are not on the drip or have ridiculous sell-on clauses? Only people who renewed their contracts come under this category, right?

He might be surplus to requirements under 777’s shared resources model? They weren’t impressed by his 3 year recruitment plan pitch if past media reports are to go by (but it was the BBC I think?). Maybe we’ll have someone from Liege/Hertha/Vasco/Genoa? Does his job exist at their other clubs?

You can't put Keane in that list!
On 2 separate occasions he has persisted with him over better options (Mina, Branthwaite) & its required a massive pressure from the fanbase to change that!

Liege have a good young midfielder i think? 20 years of age, Northern Ireland international

I actually think in theory........ Thelwell has done a good job considering the limitations, trouble from the board & lack of funds he has had to work with!

Onana - we will sell for a profit and has contributed
McNeil - will be with us for a long time and has contributed massively (top scorer last season)
Maupay - disaster.......these things happen
Garner - really kicking on this year and we will either sell for a profit or will be here a long time
Gueye - hit & miss (maybe not his deal as could be Kenwright move)
Beto - Jury's out, but no down payment so we don't know what he had to work with
Chermiti - Swapped for Cannon & Simms basically, again no down payment and the jury's still out
Danjuma - In theory a good move on loan........Dyche doesn't seem to like him though
Young - Dyche's mate (see Gana)
Harrison - Good start

Most of those have been decent acquisitions along with having to cut the wage bill and generate £185 million from the sales of Richarlison, Gordon, Kean, Iwobi, Gray, Cannon, Simms & Nkounkou! I think we have a better, more balanced squad then we did when before he came in!

He did last season fair enough but this season Branthwaite was in almost as soon as he was match fit after coming back late into pre season.

He’s started a number of games in a row and no matter what any Everton fan says about fan pressure Dyche could have picked any of Keane Godfrey or even Holgate (before he was loaned out) ahead of Branthwaite but he hasn’t he’s backed the youngest most inexperienced player because he’s the best one which is completely at odds with the view that Dyche picks experience over everything. If he did then Branthwaite would be fourth choice not first.
