2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

There is often a very fine line between stupidity and genius mate.

Id 100% bring him back for another year with leveraged favourable terms - even if that is a bit rouge against the prevailing opinion on here.

The conservative strategy is, clearly a player we think has ability and who if fit we would ok to make permanent, we have likely three positions in his area of the pitch to fill, why invest in say no 1 & 2, then make no 3 Broja on a leveraged loan with an option - instead of also investing in no 3. Preserves funds and we have all the safeguard if it goes well.

I think its a player the DOF and manager rate and we will have all his medical data before we decide to it.

I see a lot of logic to it if im being honest.

Thing is we need to spend big on a striker in the summer regardless (obviously I think Delap is the clear choice), Chermiti will likely be third choice I'd much rather bring in say Richarlison on a year loan, yeah would cost a decent loan fee and have to cover his wages, but so would this lad, one is guaranteed production and would be a huge boost to in terms of intent the other showing a lack of thought.

Yeah I can see both sides of the argument but think I broadly agree with this. Ultimately for all the talk of a massive rebuild we are not building a team from scratch- 8 of the 11 that destroyed Leicester are under contract, Gana and Doucs would likely sign contracts if offered, Lindstrøm we have the option (a different debate!).

So really like you say I’d look for 3-4 genuine level raising signings for the bulk of the budget, to take a half decent core group to another level, rather than just add bodies at broadly the level we already have. Then bulk things up with lower cost / free / loan signings.

Judicious use of loans also avoids too much bloat when you want to upgrade those squad players in coming years rather than being stuck with them on PL wages.

Personally rather see us spending what we have or the bulk on say, Delap, Mcatee, a centre mid for 30m and a quality left or right back for 25m (either of those are loan with options even better). Make Lindstrom and Alcaraz perms or extend their loans if both parent clubs agree, pick up the young Scandinavian right back from Roma for buttons as a project, loan in Richy, bring in Bove and say KWP on frees. Get a young CB like Omeragic as a backup CB.

Just spit balling names I've already harped on about,

Loans with options this summer become a higher level for us as clubs will now know we may actually have the money to mdjevthem permanent desks after

This we know mate, we will need a couple of forwards one will be a big investment and alpha the second we will be cuttin gour cloth with a Beta - hence i can see the logic of Broja on loan again. A beta striker is something we have always struggled with - Kone, Valencia, Niasse, Mauapy etc. Broja would be low cost, low risk - presuming we have his medical files and can verify his fitness low

Ultimately it comes down to whether you can see quality there, which by the sound of it you dont. But there is a logic to it, both in terms of managing resources, squad planning and potential value to leverage.

Wouldn't personally cultivate a deal for Richarlison, as much as i love him.

Dead easy this DoF lark! But yeah as a general balance to the window that’s going to raise the level more than signing 8 players in the 15-20m bracket. Confident we are going to have a very tidy budget but still got to use all tools at our disposal.

Conservative isn't bringing in again a player who has been injured with seierate injuries and entire season whilst we pay several million for the privilege of treating him.

Strategic isn't repeating the same mistake again it's called massive stupidity
Yeah im sure there would be another good striker for £30m somewhere

Broja is a £12m-£15m player if you can actually get him on the pitch. There should be absolutely no entertaining the idea of taking up the ludicrous buy option that Chelsea have set. He’s one more long term injury away from going full Gbamin.
His injury history on a striker with a record for producing when fit would be a calculated risk you'd have to weigh up, we will see that with DCL and the calibre of offers he gets this summer on a free, on a 24yo with zero behind him besides being touted by the media as a prospect and a spate of injuries that would make Andy Gray wince is just a ridiculous risk for very little reward

I'm interested to see how the connection with Roma influences any business this season also, in terms of do with use their network at all in terms of the knowledge of the Italian league etc.

Has he produced? He's had one little patch

It was a decent interview, and I always give credit when a DOF does an interview because they don't have to.

My couple of takeaways from it would be

I'm not really sure what conservatively strategic means. We need a lot of players, so not sure how a conservative strategy plays into that.

If the summer window turns out to be a success then I will ultimately accept the reasoning given for such a quiet January.

I was a little disappointed that the large number of out of contract players and loan signings was not discussed. I don't expect individual contracts or players to be discussed but I would have liked to hear a wider discussion on what our strategy is to deal with having so few players currently under contract next season.
A scripted interview...I would give him credit if he sits with a group of fans to answer their questions rather than a set of questions he had in advance and that were carefully selected. The answers were very generic, very little details other than we are looking for value and January is 20% more expensive...not sure if would agree with that statement as clearly there are always exceptions and value can be found in January if you look hard enough. He hasn't address the lack of attacking options we have since the summer...was there money made available by TFG for signings?

Is Delap any good? He’s got a decent half season under his belt but it would be a highly priced gamble. I haven’t seen all that much of him.
I’m a bit wary of Delap TBH. His scoring record in the championship was very poor, he’s looked good in a bad team this season and got a few goals, but then that was true of Adebayo at Luton last season and he’s back to being gash in the Championship. It would be an expensive punt on a guy with only one decent season under his belt.
