2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

….any idea if Thelwell was part of the board and in charge of transfers during the periods which resulted in our points deductions, or as I suspect was that down to Brands?
We were punished for breaches in 21-22 and 22-23. For the first of those seasons he wasn’t involved. For the second he was. Although it’s questionable how much blame could/should be laid at his door for that. Mainly lies IMO with Moshiri and Kenwright

Goodness, you’re right , Thelwell was the one who spent all that money, raised wages etc that caused us to lose all those points and nearly get relegated. Then he went on to advise Liz Truss on her budget , crashing the UK economy . Just when you think it couldn’t get worse he went and signed Chermiti ! - Chermiti! he single handedly nearly got us relegated last season! But it’s got worse, Joe Biden has just been on US tv saying he wished he’d never got Thelwell in as an adviser and they’d have won the election if it hadn’t been for him. So if Trump starts World War 3 it’s all down to Thelwell 😕

….agree with all that but you never mentioned Maupay and Beto ;)

Think ol’ big nose hasn’t done enough wrong to get binned, but has done enough right to be give a chance under TFG.
If nothing else we really need some strategic continuity in our player development pipeline.

Whether a DoF is even necessary with the right manager (I DO NOT mean Moyes) is a different argument but I think the DoF role is here to stay.

Some great insight from iNews.

I can't share the full piece as it's subscriber, but a snippt;

“The biggest issue we’ve got across the whole building – because we’ve not been able to invest – is recruitment. First-team men’s, women’s, losing talent, recruiting at younger ages can be improved hugely.

“I would hope new ownership would be supportive of that process. Once we get that resource that can help us a little bit with programme stuff, a little bit with process stuff, a little bit with recruitment stuff, I think we’re going to be in a really exciting place.

“I think we’re ready for that next evolution, is how it feels. Assuming they [the Friedkin Group] get regulatory approval, it’s just now a case of getting the new owners in, getting them bedded in, not going crazy but certainly being able to take the next step.”

I think he's done a solid job in the circumstances. How capable he is of taking the next step and being responsible for a rebuild I don't know, but he's done pretty well at steadying the ship over the last couple of years.

We know the problems at senior level with recruitment.

But It’s interesting he mentions and prioritising at underage recruitment.

It’s been impressive thus far the recruitment of Clarke, Benjiman and Graham.

Usual caveats for young players - but as the crow flies, it looks like very good recruitment/strategy.

Something other clubs particularly City are very strong at.

Careful - you'll have people with pitchforks outside your house if you dare suggest he's done a more than efficient job!

Sounds like he’s staying on!

….always been a smooth talker and he’s at it again. Regardless of budget, there’s no excuse for acquiring poor quality footballers. He’s cosying up to FSG like he cosied up to BK and 777.

Folk on here complain about individual players, complain about Dyche, complain about our lack of quality but Thelwell gets a free ticket from most. Always surprises me, must be his words rather than his actions :coffee:
