2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

He's wanted to sign some players who look good when you think of Kudus, Minteh, Gyokeres. Was Diaz him too?

All fairly opportunistic but relying on things loans, players leaving as part of the deal or clubs accepting nothing upfront.

He's just had to operate with having to sell more than we buy every window, and often buy players from clubs which allow £0 upfront.

Have to reserve judgement when his hands are tied so much.
I agree it’s impossible to judge him how much of a mess the clubs in,must of been a nightmare at times but those players prove he can spot a player maybe it’s worth keeping him on in some role

I could see an argument for him being able to do a good job somewhere, but I don't think he's the right man for these less than ideal circumstances.

Will certainly help out with PSR going forwards if we can keep flipping them for a bit of profit.

…I think more about one or two of them being effective first teamers but I suppose we’re talking of the same thing.

To be fair, the strategy of acquiring young talent has been successful in recent times (DCL, Lookman, Stones, Branthwaite etc) but Thelwell has overseen the likes of Graham (terrific he signed his pro contract today), Benjamin and Clarke.

It genuinely could be his niche if hopefully we get a new DoF with the new owner.

Think I'd be happy to see him get another two year deal for starters. Like you say there's enough in what he's *tried* to do, as well as what he's actually done, to suggest he'd do well at a sane club with some semblance of a budget.

Two years would be enough to show what he could really do with his hands finally untied.

If we get a new DoF Thelwell isn't staying

….any idea if Thelwell was part of the board and in charge of transfers during the periods which resulted in our points deductions?

First one no, second one yes.

*He wasn't on the board. What would have happened is the finance Dept would have given him a budget for the first team and requirements to sell and thresholds to be met as opposed to him having to balance the wholes clubs books, within that would have been the requirement to sell and scope to buy.
