Tbf you can have all the contacts in the world but if you haven’t got two brass farthings to rub together you aren’t going to get very far.Judging by the managers and players that have come in on his watch, I don't think he has the sort of contacts that can give an edge to a club that has years of catching up to do.
Seems more like an over-promoted scout than a director of football, similar to Walsh.
Then you set your net further afield into markets more suited towards the budget you have so you can get better value for money. He is getting paid big money to find solutions towards problems like this, that is a big part of his role as DoF.Tbf you can have all the contacts in the world but if you haven’t got two brass farthings to rub together you aren’t going to get very far.
….always been a smooth talker and he’s at it again. Regardless of budget, there’s no excuse for acquiring poor quality footballers. He’s cosying up to FSG like he cosied up to BK and 777.
Folk on here complain about individual players, complain about Dyche, complain about our lack of quality but Thelwell gets a free ticket from most. Always surprises me, must be his words rather than his actions
The plot thickens and becomes a little more sinister from you...
...FSG eh eggs
Could be that the club doesn't have the money to set the scouting network further afield. According to the article above they can't even afford to have academy kids training full time. Then you set your net further afield into markets more suited towards the budget you have so you can get better value for money. Yes, because we have been run appallingly doing stupid deals which have cost us long term and also are building a stadium so I'm not sure why fans expected big spending transfer windows over recent seasons, was never going to happen.
Nope, you just need too open your eyes a bit wider, look a bit harder, work a bit harder. What's done is done now though, hopefully going into a new era were things will be 100 times more professional than they have been in recent years.Only a certain pool you can swim in due to it
Most of it is done via things like Wyscout and other analytical software long before they send anyone too watch a player, yes the software costs but every club has it. The stuff about the academy is just laughable, we really are a joke outfit at times, I always said we should never have put a spade into the ground until the first team had had a few seasons of stability.Could be that the club doesn't have the money to set the scouting network further afield.
