2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

Its not just Beto. Im trying to find a justification in thelwell and im struggling. We're still playing a 40yr at fullback. We've needed a decent fullback for a while. In his time here bournemouth have bought a fullback in kerkez who looks great. We in the same time frame paid more for jake obrien who hasnt even left the bench.

I dont think its an easy job. But it doesnt excuse what im seeing as some real head scratching calls.
Kerkez wouldn't be playing regularly here, why would he come here, even if we had some interest?

Furthermore, it doesn't matter who the fullbacks are in a Dyche team, they will not provide anything more than defending anyway.

Kerkez was just an example. The fullback situation has been an issue thats not been addressed in all of his time here. And before.

O'Brien seems like another player bought above his head though, given the relationship with Textor.

Just repeating what I've said before, tough to really judge the job he has done given the circumstances. Good or bad.

Well thats what we dont know. The bottom line is its a shambles.
But we had this with Brands. People saying the signings were nothing to do with him.
Well you're pocketing the cash as DOF.

Kerkez was signed for £15mil. A portion of this would have been paid upfront.

As such, he was never an option.

I see three-ish scenarios:

1. Thelwell and Dyche go now, in order to save funds for new manager to operate. Since any new manager is likely to be wholly unaligned to Thelwell anyway (how many manager's ago was he signed?) what's the point in keeping him if Dyche goes?

2. Thelwell and Dyche go post Jan if/when Dyche is fired
This is in many ways the weakest of the the three options, as in theory they spank Jan cash unwisely and limit the room for manouvre in terms of time and cash we have in Mar/April (or whenever) for whatever lifeboat of a manager we bring in then.

3. Thelwell and Dyche go end of season
This I don't mind as an option as it assumes we stay up and they can jog on no fuss.

With 2) being wholly unfavourable in just about any circumstance it really comes down to the confidence we have in Dyche and Kev right now.

I think they can keep us up - I also don't know who in the squad there is to get more of a tune from. Our RB's cannot run [any faster/more]. Myko's a good lad and a trier as per Doucs, DCL is Mr 50%, Harrison and McNeil lack quality. Beto lacks confidence. We need more from Lindstrom, Garner, Tim I, Mangala and Patterson but we need Dyche to play them.

But if the sentiment towards Dyche is he cannot do that, we need to be brave and go for 1) NOW.
4. Dyche goes, Thelwell stays - more than likely at the end of the season when Dyche's contract ends.

By this point, TFG will have identified their next managerial appointment and been able to have the necessary conversations in order to persuade them to come to Everton with the promise of some funds, a new stadium and a playing squad in need of rebuilding virtually from scratch. I would imagine that the managers they would like to be in charge of the club from June onwards are not likely to leave their current roles now.

O'Brien was bought for his potential, his age, his future sell-on value and primarily for the fact that we needed a 4th CB in the squad who wasn't Mason Holgate

I do agree, but somehow Young managed to get 3 assists this season so far, no idea how. But think it's more on his still good football instinct rather than tactics.

The fact he is enabling Dyche's stay is a black mark in his book quite apart from the recruitment which has been questionable even if his hands have been tied by the financial constraints

They admitted he was bought because it was a good opportunity to take up.

With his age, Keane leaving end of season, Holgate with 12 months left, sold Godfrey, and no doubt be selling Branthwaite... he'll get his time next season.

:lol::lol: there's been some strange comments in this thread but one take's the biscuit. He's never been in a position to sack Dyche under Moshiri. Is he in a position to sack him now, well tbh no one knows. Is he going to be here past the summer, well again no one knows. He's been talking to other managerial options, again we don't know the content of all of those discussions and we certainly don't know who his first choice and if TFG are in agreement. In short we don't nearly enough to be blaming the guy for enabling Dyche's stay!
