2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

Hope I’m wrong but I have the feeling the next 6 months will a bit of a horror show behind the scenes with Moyes working against The DOF reporting to the Freidkins on the QT and a bit of vice versa too.
Reckon Moyes with indicate he doesn’t need one and the Freidkins will let it all play out to the detriment (again) of the football operation.
Personally not arsed about the DoF model but unless your are comfortably in the European places regularly and there’s no chance of the manger leaving, I prefer it to what is likely a 2 year managerial cycle and complete upheave with every manager.

Would imagine he is in part responsible for Moyes appointment therefore has future at Everton. Really it makes no sense keeping Thewell as soon as Moyes was announced. Unless older more experienced Moyes is happy to work with DoF.

moyes has said in an interview previously he is happy to work with a director of football as long as their head is on the chopping block along side his if things don't go to plan

I would have concerns in terms of planning for next season, even though safety is correctly the absolute priority this.

Just with the amount of out of contract players. Even if Thelwell is leaving, a large amount of the prep work would probably be based on his efforts and that can't be just thrown in the bin.

They can't get to the end of May and suddenly start thinking about transfers and I wouldn't expect Moyes to be putting in a lot of time thinking about it, in the here and now.

Another DoF coming in over the summer would have a tough job trying to put any shape on things, and then there has to be some alignment between Moyes and a new appointee.

None of that is an insurmountable problem, but it certainly represents additional challenges in what will already be a demanding time.
